I have two of these that I have fitted with 250GB IDE Hard drives and they work just fine. Easy to install and setup with simple to follow included instruction, and very good free online support, including FAQ's (with loads of screen shots), firmware upgrades, and manuals.
You can store all your music, photographs, videos and any other files you want on them and share them with anyone on your network if you choose.
It is also possible to make files available to others outside your LAN using the built in ftp server feature if you wish.
With some additional backup software, they can also be used to backup your computer hard drives or files.
They are cross platform, I am able to access the data on them using computers running Microsoft 95, 98, 2000, XP, Mac, and Linux. BUT NOT with a computer running any version of Microsoft Vista. This because Vista dose not currently support Samba (the server software used by these network drives).
You can take it with you and use it as a portable hard drive connecting it to any computer (including one running MS Vista) via USB, although with the ftp capabilities of this product it's hard to see why you would want to.
My only criticism of the product is that the user interface is not easy to follow when using the Firefox web browser the layout goes to pieces, although this is not the case when using Internet Explorer or Safari.
All in all a very well made product that is designed to, and has, given me years of service. In my opinion excellent value for money.

Note that this enclosure requires an IDE HDD up to 500GB and Not SATA
Havent used it yet because of this, ended up with wrong type of HDD
