Screen sizes and HP W1907E August 6, 2008 RIKI (U.K.) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Thinking of buying this monitor based on the good reviews I have read on Amazon. One niggle is people's apparent ignorance of how screen sizes work. They are always quoted 'on the diagonal', so if you do the Pythagoras (good old maths again!) on a 16" X 10" screen size, you come up with 18.6....so nearly 19". You can't just go on the width and height, as certain reviewers seem to have done, and then crticised the display for being too small. It is what HP say - 19". They couldn't say it was if it wasn't. Otherwise we'd be into Trade Descriptions act and all that stuff. Have now bought this item from Amazon- best deal when yo take into account free shipping. Others seem a bit less but then add about 8/9.00 carriage so a good deal. It is a fantastic display and high resolution. Speakers need to be better. Although they give a good sound, at only 2W per channel they are simply not loud enough, although most built in speakers are only 1.5W. Also, you can not just turn speakers on/off at a stroke. You have to fiddle about with the buttons and actually turn the volume down. Then go through the same procedure again to reset it to turn it back on. Either that or you rely on clicking the 'mute' button in any music software you might have. Also documentation is poor. There is no manual. It all comes on disc which gives you a no. of options to install, but no instruction as to what to install for what. In fact, you don't need to use the disc at all usually. You just wire the monitor up and away it goes. I had to because the factory settings seemed to have got corrupted. I was presented with a very good test screen but again with no exit or quit option displayed. It was fullscreen. The only way to get out of it was to hit the ESCAPE key, which I discovered by playing around. It wasn't documented anywhere. Overall it is a good product by a reputable manufacturer. They need to address the speaker and documentation issues, otherwise I would have rated it 5*. My only reget is that I didn't lash out another 10.00 and get the 20" model which is only slightly bigger but higher resolution still. As for longevity, only time will tell, but it certainly looks and feels robust enough.

Got one today. FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC. Can,t believe the quality at this price, and it looks REAL QUALITY. Was thinking of getting a similar priced ACER, thank god I went for this one instead. The images are fantastic, the pictures are chrystal clear, also impressed with the quality of the built in speakers, not horrible and tinny, as with many others. Overall i'm feeling pretty chuffed with this amazing bit of kit, and would highly recomend to anyone in the market for a high quality monitor at a reasonable price
Top Service as Usual April 17, 2008 P. J. S. Waller (Scarborough North Yorkshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First Amazon. Ordered lunch time Tuesday and the door bell rang 8-00 am Wednesday morning with monitor. What service. Monitor. Took longer to unpack than to connect up. Just unpacked connected required cables, plugged in and swithced on. It came up straight away and all that it required for me was to turn the 'brightness' down slightly. A superb monitor and without doubt value for money. As they say, totally idiot proof.
Very Good February 12, 2008 Thrud Fan (London, UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This monitor has a very clear and pin sharp picture. I plugged it into my new Vista PC with an Nvida card and it worked immediately no extra drivers required. An important thing to remember with it is that it is a glossy screen and highly reflective rather than mat so if you are using it in bright sunlight or bright strip lighting the reflections may make it difficult to read and for games with low light levels all you will get is a reflection of yourself. So long as you are aware of this and it will not cause you a problem you can buy with confidence.
Buy IT!!!! - Fabulous Monitor!!!! - I Have one - A++++++++++ December 29, 2007 Ms. Patricia Day (UK) 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
Well - I Didn't buy from Amazon - Wish I Had!!! - I buy Lots here - But I Paid 11 over the odds it would seem at 150 - Gift from wife for my 40th - What a nice bit of Kit!!!! - Had a Non Flat HP Screen Monitor before!!!!! - Hated Flat Screens to be honest - all I saw looked pathetic and fuzzy - Not any more! You really cant describe this Monitor - well, its not really a monitor - It's a Widescreen TV Screen for your PC!! - Really is Something else!! I Plugged it in - It Was Plug and Play - Went Full Screen - No annoying black borders around the edge!!! - I could have bought 20" version instead of 19" for a tenner more - Thats a great Purchase too if you have a unit it will fit in!!!!!! - I was annoyed but Well Chuffed with 19" when I got it Home!!! - Had Big HP 17" Monitor Before Picture - Crystal Sharp - A Myriad of settings - ALL SUPRISINGLY VERY EASY TO COPE WITH - I HAVE NOT EVEN OPENED MANUAL!!! Just Buy it!!! - I Promise you wont regret it!!! - Would seem a lot of thought has gone into this Widescreen Monitor - Picture, display - Ease of Use etc Down to small options and settings Eg - The Power On/Off Button is Top Right of Monitor and is Lit by a Backlight - I Thought this maybe annoying when Surfing or Gaming in the Dark - No Problem!!! - Just go into Menu and Turn Power Backlight OFF - A real simple feature but greatly appreciated Screen even has auto detect resolution etc when first plugged in - Go Back to Factory Settings etc Different Modes Etc - I Repair PC's for a living and seen a whole load of Monitors - All Flat screens I thought Disgusting until now - Hewlett Packard really do deserve a MEDAL and a GOLD STAR For this one!!!!!! It has Definitely Broken the Mould!!!! So - In case you havent Guessed - Go For it in safety that This is one awesome piece of Kit - It will play absolutely fine at any resolution - But the Higher you Pump it - the Happier it seems to be!!!!! Good for ALL!!!!! - BUT Gamers seeking Extra Screen Resolution - Defintiley recommended - whether 19" - 20" or I beleive there is a 24" version too - YOU WONT REGRET IT!! - It's Like I have a NEW PC!!! - Graphics and gaming are astounding and absolutely amazing - MEGA Monitor Regards - Shaun
