Blurry when showing fast-moving images - on its way back to Amazon October 4, 2008 Kilgore Trout (Birmingham, UK) I bought this panel, despite knowing all about the colour reproduction problems attached to the notorious Samsung "panel lottery," because I'd heard that the colour problems are rectifiable where they exist. Sure enough, on turning it on I was greeted with a frankly appalling screen display as far as colour fidelity was concerned. The OSD was powerless to correct this, but a downloadable colour profile did the trick nicely, and after that the colour reproduction, contrast, grey-scales and image sharpness were outstanding, it must be said. The problems came when I tried to do some gaming. The much-touted 2ms response time and low lag was one of my chief reasons for shelling out 200 on what is now fairly old technology. So I was absolutely crestfallen when I found that any relatively fast moving games displayed horribly smeared, blurred graphics when the screen was moving. When everything was still, my games looked gorgeous, but move the screen at any reasonable speed and all in-game objects and characters become blurred at the edges. This gave me a headache after about 20 minutes on Half-Life 2 and I was unable to continue. Same thing happens with Bioshock and Titan Quest. I don't know what's wrong, but there is no way this monitor is producing response times of 2ms. I have taken a number of photographs of the screen with a 2ms shutter speed to verify this, and the resultant images all consistently show clear and significant ghosting. Nothing I have tried has rectified this - reinstalling and updating monitor and gfx card drivers, restoring all settings and colour profiles to default, changing and restoring OSD settings, changing input cables, swapping between VGA and DVI inputs; none of it makes any difference. So, this display would be ideal for anyone wanting to do anything other than play fast-paced games or watch fast-paced films, but then you wouldn't pay this price for a monitor to do that - and that certainly is not what I paid for. Back it goes.
Good in principle, but in practice.... August 5, 2008 Mr. D. Etherington (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Replacing an old Dell flatscreen, I read up on a lot of monitors. The 226BW got good reviews in a number of places, including here. I was very disappointed with the image when I first set it up, but assumed I could adjust it extensively. The built-in controls are somewhat limited if you're using a digital connection, but again, I assumed once I had the main OSD suite - MagicTune - installed it'd be hunky dory. But oh no. I've got a new machine running 64 bit Vista Home Premium. The disc that accompanies the 226BW points you in the dreiction of the Samsung website to download MagicTune for Vista. I installed it from the Samsung site, but on restart got a message saying "This computer does not support MagicTune", pointing me straight back to the website where I'd just downloaded it from. Hunting around, it seems a lot of people have this problem, but a solution has yet to present itself. The upshot is I have very limited adjustment controls over the monitor, and I'm stuck with a ropey, thoroughly unsatisfactory image. If you're using 64-bit Vista, I'd avoid the 226BW, or at least wait until Samsung have updated their software so it's not crippled by compatibility issues.
Fantastic all round monitor ! July 26, 2008 Mr. I. D. Child (LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this monitor on a friday morning ! And i recieved it the following saturday morning! Excellent delivery service!(express delivery).I read various reviews and i was a little wary about the whole monitor grade fiasco! But i went for it anyway! I was not disapointed the screen itself is beautiful ! very classy looking ! And its huge ! Im a big gamer and i was thinking of going for the samsung 24" but the 22" is plenty big enough ! The screen quality fantastic ! no dead pixels! All the colours are so bright and vibrant it makes gaming a joy all over again ! (tested with prey, bioshock, crysis all look fantastic ! especially prey because of the colours !)there's no blurring at all with the super fast response time it runs like a dream ! Movies also look fantastic! I really recomend this monitor and the price is great too! so do yourself a favour plump for this monitor its fantastic! BRAVO SAMSUNG !
Nice .. but May 22, 2008 Jeroen Van Den Bossche (West Lafayette Sigh) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Sure it is big, stylish and produces pretty nice images ... but when I look at my screen with the blank screensaver (so a black screen) in the dark it feels like I am looking at a torchlicht. And that when the brightness is at 0... don't know if this qualifies for a return, but I guess I'll soon find out if the costumer service of Amazon.co.uk is up to par with Amazon.com...
Excellent monitor, but not flawless. March 19, 2008 J. Hayes (Suffolk) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this excellent monitor, here is a brief review of it's good and bad points. GOOD Beautiful styling. Matches the looks of much more expensive HD TV's. Incredibly sharp and excellent image quality in windows over a DVI cable. Games look stunning and vivid. Movies looked generally good. Instant WOW factor when upgrading from older or smaller monitors. 22" widescreen will blow you away. Image quality exceptional compared to budget panels (such as you may have at work). NEGATIVE Back light bleed at top and bottom of screen noticeable when screen displays dark images... Which slightly mars its performance in certain film scenes. I found the screen adjust buttons awkward and non intuitve. For 200 it is now possible to purchase a high quality premium 22" wide screen monitor with amzing styling and image quality.I was really happy with my purchase. Good luck!
