Very nice- BUT... April 28, 2008 __-BASH-__ (LONDON) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently picked up this little pen-drive up at one of the leading high-street computer retailers. And, surprisingly, for a few quid less than its advertised for here on Amazon! Anyway, that aside, its a pretty good product. Out of the packet it looks slick... nice chrome features, solid construction and compact design. Its about the size of a small stick of gum, except a bit fatter, and has a small, circular lug at one end to which it can be attached to a yanlard (not included) or key-ring. other than that, its pretty minimal. There's a tiny LED on one side, which lights up to show that the drive is successfully connected to the computer. As mentioned by a reviewer of the 4GB version, the chrome finish DOES attract mucky finger-prints easily, but thats just part of the parcel... if you don't like it, then don't buy anything shiny (or buy it, but just don't TOUCH it!). I had no problems whatsoever with my computer registering the device... it was pretty much plug-and-play. Even on other people's computers. I've only transfered a small number of files so far, but they've all gone from the computer to the drive VERY quickly. we're talking a few seconds, max. I haven't tried any humungously big transfers, but I suspect that it'd cope pretty well. And with 2GB of space (or rather 4GB, if you've got the expanded one), there's quite a bit of room to play with. So... those are the pros. Are there any cons? Just one- the lid DOESN'T snap shut firmly, which means that its in danger of falling off an being lost if you decide to carry the unit on some sort of lanyard or chain. Now, there IS a carry-case included in the price (a very nice black leather one, might I add!). However, when you insert the drive into the case, and then come to take it out, the lid of the drive (obviously not being firmly attached to the drive itself) gets stuck at the bottom of the case, meaning that you have to play the game of teasing it back out from the outside. Alternatively, you can insert the drive into the case the OPPOSITE way round (ie. with the lug-loop first). But then, when it comes to removing the drive from the case again, the lid pulls off in your hand, leaving the drive stuck in the case, and you're now forced to play the "teasing out game" again, except this time with the drive istelf. Its irritating- something that the design team should've solved before releasing the product for sale. But they didn't. Perhaps because, at this price range, it wasn't really worth their while. And, I admit, its only a minor concern. I can certainly live with it. And, for what I payed, I got a pen-drive that not only looks pretty classy, but also works reasonably efficiently. And for that it gets 4 stars.
