Having bought a 'Gimp' protective cover for my brand new Toshiba 17" widescreen laptop, I was familiar with the quality provided by the Crumpler brand. Even so, when this back pack/rucksack arrived on my doorstep I was still very pleasantly surprised. So what do you get for your 60?
A cool design - as you can see from the product image - this is no ordinary rucksack - the front of the bag is curved outwards and there's no zip at the front - the zip to open the bag is situated towards the back of the bag and fold away neatly and comfortably underneath the shoulder straps. This clever design means that the bag cannot be opened by anyone walking behind you - one of the eternal risks of wearing a rucksack. There is a side strip which if unzipped, reveals an inner pocket where you could keep a mobile phone/MP3/Ipod. WHen you unzip the bag you're treated to a flash of orange, that's right, hte interior is completely orange but it kind of compliments and offsets the sombre black exterior. At the back of teh bag is the laptop pocket wiht a removable laptop sleeve. This sleeve is made of teh same protective material as the rest of the bag - this thing is practically waterproof. Now, I do admit I had a little difficulty getting my Toshiba widescreen laptop into the protective sleeve although I did manage it but you don't HAVE to use the sleeve, you could just use the separate compartment. The sleeve has a black handle attached to it if you wanted to use just that as an alternative. The front of the bag then has a series of compartments for pens/wires/mice/etc etc and there is absolutely ACRES of room and I mean ACRES in the front of the bag. SO much so, I can fit my laptop, all my stationery, the portable mouse, digital camera and 3 large textbooks all in the one bag. THe sturdy straps are very comfortable and the design of the bag means that the weight is evenly distributed. Even if you aren't going to use this for carrying a laptop all teh time, it comes in extremely handy for all other things because of it's size and capacity. Although it is very large, as i say, weight is evenly distributed making it suitable for cyclists, it's VERY rainproof, shock absorbent and smart. You can take it on flights as hand luggage in spite of its size. All in all, I would say that this is the best 60 on laptop accessories that I've ever spent. I'm absolutely delighted. Each bag is handmade and when it gets worn (I don't know how that could even happen) you can send it back to Crumpler who will repair it and return it to you. If you have spent a lot of money on your laptop and want to combine style with excellent protection and value for money, then this is teh bag for you. Its added bonus is that it doesn't actually look very much like a laptop bag thus it doesn't mark you out as a target.
All in all, absolutely delighted 10/10
