4 out of 5 stars Well put together - but could be better   February 24, 2008
Matt Smart (Southsea)
I was hoping (like others) to be able to play this more than once with a different culprit. Unfortunately it will always be the same person (and once the game started I remembered quickly who did it) If when you play the game both teams guess wrong then my advice is don't let Poirot tell you, that way the game can be played again with the mystery intact

However, the mix of puzzles and games are THE BEST I have seen. (I'm a fan of DVD games) and from end to end it should take a couple of hours or so. Though I did find when I played it a second time that a fair few questions are repeated (though none within a game)

It is probably best to compare this to a murder mystery party 'kit'. If you think of it that way then it is very good. I would also say if you are competing and playing more than 1 'chapter' write down the scores as they are reset between chapters.

You can also note down codes to skip to later chapters if you want to continue on another day. TOP TIP - if you want to skip the clips without questions you can with the fast-forward (skip-scene) button (though I would only do this when replaying the game)

Also another minus point is that it must be played as a 2 player game.

On the whole I think this is a great game that sets the bench-mark for future games.

3 out of 5 stars A good way to pass the time!   January 20, 2008

I was really excited to receive this as a Christmas present and had a great time playing it. However if you are into Poirot and have either read the book or seen this episode on TV, then you will know who did it very quickly. It says on the box 'different game, every time', so hopefully it will be different next time we play, although I can't see how the outcome will alter. Still - a good way to pass a rainy afternoon!

4 out of 5 stars Puzzling with Poirot   January 16, 2008
C. A. Rason (uk)
We found this enthralling and thoroughly enjoyed each section and the different tasks involved.

It comes in 4 different acts so you can spread it over a number of sessions, we did it over 2 days. At the end of the first act we thought we'd got to the end of it all because it had been in different sections so were agreably surprised to find we'd only done a quarter of it.

The tasks were fun, we all ended up clustered round the TV to check the choices and click on the different places to investigate.

The only downpoint from our point of view was the culprit, but I won't spoil your fun by explaining more, it wasn't enough to stop us getting any other versions like this that are released. If you like Poirot and love puzzles you'll enjoy this.

2 out of 5 stars Value for money?   December 31, 2007

I really looked forward to playing this game as I had seen the episode on the telly but could not remember who the murderer was, Only two persons can play and you really have to be on the ball, questions are mostly timed and you need to have your wits about you.
Plus points- excellent music and colourful scences from DVD
Minus- The game description on back of cover is misleading as you assume that you can play more than once but the murderer is always the same and you feel let down that you really can only play it once without spoiling it.
Player one always seems to have the harder questions throughout the game.
Good game to play but only real enjoyment when you play the first time- not sure if worth the money

2 out of 5 stars Too awful for Words!   December 31, 2007

I had high hopes for this game, once again seeing David Suchet as Poirot; I was also excited about seeing the new footage of him in this role. This was the only highlight, the game was boring, far to long at around two hours and the games you played had no bearing on solving the case or gave you any hints to help you solve the case.

The games did have instructions with them but these were displayed once the game had started, so by the time you have read the instructions to the game your time is up and you score 0.

There were notable differences between the standard of play for player one and player two. For example Player one had the harder questions throughout the game where player two had the easier ones.

Once you choose your suspect the DVD only shows these two characters in the final sum up and not the usual round up Poirot is well known for. The scenes are chopped to suit who you have chosen and there is no real explanation as to why they commited the crime. I have read the book so knew who the murderer was, I have only played this game once as once is enough until I can get over the two hours; and I really hope the murderers alter otherwise you can only play the game once, unless you do not guess correctly? Then you could play again with the hope in guessing the murderer correctly. Either way I felt let down by the end of the game and was left wanting so much more, a proper explanation of the events and a proper explanation of why that person committed the murder. If you have not read the book then you may enjoy it, but if you have read the book then I would not bother as you will be left feeling angered at how poorly the story was betrayed.

*HIGHLIGHT* David Suchet as Poirot once more, a nice little filler until he returns to the small screen once again.
