3 out of 5 stars Doesn't inspire, sorry   November 16, 2008
J. Hiscock (UK)
I have to confess to being of the fast food/takeaway generation, and bought this 'game' hoping it might inspire me to get cooking more, building on the influence that Jamie's Ministry of Food had on me recently.
However, I should've bought his ds 'game' instead, as this one seems to be asian primarily (I think it has been written by an asian company).
I was hoping to have more basic recipes that would inspire me to build on and grow, but that just isn't the case.
The section with food preparation videos is extremely helpful, especially to those of us for whom home economic days are a long and distant memory.
I will be looking to sell this on, though, and intend on buying Jamie's alternative (in spite of not wanting to line his pocket with silver any further!)

1 out of 5 stars Very poor.. come back Delia   August 16, 2008

Personally I found this to be total rubbish,

Even after following recipes to the letter I end up with very unsatisfactory results.... runny sauces et al.

The speech recognition has to be disabled because when you use it and do anything remotely noisy (like chopping ingredients!!!) it thinks you are speaking and it gets totally confused taking you back through the cooking instructions.

This means you have to use the stylus which is hardly ideal when cooking. It was very disappointing given I thought I had found something useful to do with my DS rather than 'training my brain' or zapping aliens....

I would say spend you're money on a good Delia cook book.

3 out of 5 stars Good idea   August 8, 2008

Great idea, great interface - would be massively useful for a cook lacking in confidence. The only gripe I have with it is the recipies! They are clearly meant to appeal to a global audience, but I thought they were all a bit odd! I hope they are planning to bring out more editions - specialising in various cuisines - ie an Italian one, British one and so on. I'd definitely buy them.

4 out of 5 stars Guide not game...   July 28, 2008

First of all, I really advice taking out a little extra insurance on your DS console, and having screen protectors. Unlike most games for the DS this is a little more hands on, and it is good to remember the clue is in the name - guide. The recipes are simple and easy to follow, and although the voice recognition is a little over sensitive at times, its not difficult to back the steps up or skip a few to get back to the right point. Nintendo are really learning to push the DS as far as it can go, and with this guide, you can see its working.

Oh, by the way, the Tarte au Sucre and the chinese pork are particularly tasty...

5 out of 5 stars Not a game, but useful...   July 24, 2008

Pros:

* A Cooking Guide that works!
* Classy presentation with lots of speech/video
* Brings the DS one step closer to taking over your life

Cons:

* A little on the pricey side
* Limited UK dishes
* Only lasts as long as you can be bothered
