5 out of 5 stars Bloody awesome game   August 13, 2007

The game is seriously scary, but not always in a conventional horror way like you might expect. More the sort of terror you're likely to experience in real life, if you go scraping around squatters and crack addicts domains donned in a police jacket.

The terrifying and realistic atmosphere coupled with more whack and prey, "scrapping" style combat, you'll find no fancy Hollywood shootouts or kung fu fights here - just the scum of society beating the hell out of you with lead pipes, axes and taking a occasional shot at you with a civilian firearm.

Collecting evidence requires at least some input and definitely helps immerse the player in the story of the game, however there are no "puzzles" - this is a survival horror, not an adventure game after all.

Graphics aren't *quite* realistic but they definitely provide a brilliant murky palate that suits the games tone perfectly, aiding along the dark, brooding atmosphere - and the voice acting, what there is of it, is spot on. The only thing I'd complain about with this game is that it has little replay value. All in all, this game gets 5 stars from me.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this game - rent it first.   September 22, 2006

The game is easy, it is not scary (unless you are a 13 yrs old girl), the 'collecting evidence' feature is a joke. Combat becomes boring after 2 chapters. You cannot go in places where clearly you could go by jumping or crounching... ah you cannot jump or crouch, well... you can but only when the game tells you so... crap. What is the point of collecting dead birds and pieces of metal??? Ah, yes, unlocking stupid achievements to watch some extras. Pointless.

The monsters do things you cannot do with the same weapons you can use... why they swing 3 times when you can swing only one? Well, it is not a real problem because beating the monsters to a pulp is really easy... the most difficult monster was the crazy butcher woman, difficulty being in manouvering around a table and managing the sprint reservoir thingy.

And the plot? Fantastic... no! I don't think so.

This game sucks. Very good as a proof of concept to show off some cool graphics.

Don't buy this game. Rent it. Then if you are a 13 yrs old very impressionable girl with a lack of imagination and that never played anything else but World of Warcraft, then probably you'll enjoy this game and ending up buying it.

Ah! Before people ask... I bought it, yes, I bought it because of misleading reviews and I still kicking myself for this.

i can not beleive how much this game is being shot down by all these reviews.

i played the majority of this game in the dark by myself and i found it hard to leave the room afterwards.and the storyline will stay in your mind for months afterwards

the graphics are just short of reality- from the creaters of F.E.A.R no doubt.

it is however a little short

this isnt a shoot-em-up traditional game, there are guns however but they come with realism unlike other games you cant carry everything you want in your back pocket and once you run out of ammo your gun becomes a melee weapon untill it breaks after being smashed into peoples faces over and over.
you can pick up anything you can get your hands on with a completely interactive enviroment. and the crime scene investigation part of the game is superb.

firstly ide recommend buying F.E.A.R if youve already got it then i would recommend buying this. hands down

2 out of 5 stars Good idea - doesn't work.   May 8, 2006

I could whine but I'll get to the point
Its a brilliant idea, but it just doesn't work. the gameplay is much TOO slow, im fully aware that its meant to be but its just not tense at all, the bits that are meant to make you jump hardly make you blink. the combat is impressive however, with enemies reacting how you would expect them to but its just too easy, and with your tazer you can get a free pop at them. the enemies are too few and too far apart too. the enviroments are good, as is the sound. its main drawing point 'the evidence' is pure vomit. when there's evidence nearby your 'instincts' tell you and it basically lets you know EXACTLY where to look, and even readies the right evidence tool...waaay too easy, takes all the fun out

Good
Fresh new innovative 'idea'
Engaging melee combat...but tedious and annoying after a while
Good game physics, graphics, sound.

Bad
Too slow, and hard to draw you in
Stupid Evidence collection
Too easy...

I know I havn't put many bad points for a 2 star rating but thats because there arn't MANY bad points, its just that its a few BIG bad problems. The games put together well with no bugs or anything but in my opinion its just too slow and the 'evidence' is a joke.

3 out of 5 stars To linear and slow !   May 6, 2006

I've played a good couple of hours, and this game has promise. It has a distinct feel of the movie seven about it, which is a good thing. Graphics are great, the whole feel of the game is of darkness, of dread and of being alone in dark damp environments.

This is however where I find the game a bit limited. You will find 95 percent of the time navigating your way through narrow hallways and using pipes of various sizes to defend or attack against a range of deranged drunks/druggies who attack at will. You also collect items on each level. The plumbing found in all these environments are of such a nature that you always find something to defend yourself with. My problem lies with the lack of variety in this game. Early on you realise you are going to walk through miles and miles of corridors, every now and then a bad guy is going to come out of the darkness and try to bash your skull in, and basically, that is all the gameplay you can expect. Luckely you are given a pistol or shotgun from time to time, but have only 2 or 3 bullets in them to not make much of a impact. Your caracter also moves about as fast as a turtle, and even when he runs you sense he must have a case of the piles that inhibits his athletic ability. Yes, you find clues to find the bad guy/'s who commited a murder. That's all nice, however with thext installment we need more ways to interact with our environment. Hallway after hallway, corridor after corridor does become boring real quick. I understand they are trying to create atmosphere, however after the first few attacks, you know what to expect in the game, and it loses it's appeal.

All in all not a bad game, just don't expect any major gunsfights, or fast moving action. Well worth the purchase, even though I have mentioned the things that I found to be lacking. If you like a slow pased murder investigation with some atmosphere, this game is for you.
