Amazon.co.uk Preview For the majority of football loving video games fans the most important event in the gaming calendar is the release of a new Pro Evolution Soccer game.Only a few screenshots have so far been seen of the game, but it looks astonishing even by PSP standards, with highly realistic graphics that almost look better than the PS2 version. A wireless multiplayer is already guaranteed (although for how many people is still unclear), which together with the reliability of the Pro Evolution Soccer name is almost all committed fans will need to know. The game is expected to include many of the new features from the latest home console versions, including the introduction of wingbacks and more realistic weather conditions. One feature that is definitely confirmed for the PSP is the Master League that allows you to take on a player manager role. Indeed, series creator Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka has suggested that the Master League may be expanded to such a degree that it will become almost a mini version of Championship Manager -- so that you'll be quite happy just playing that on the move and the actual matches when you get home. Whatever the exact features of the game, there seems little chance that this won't immediately become the definitive portable football simulation when it is finally released. -- Harrison Dent

Throw a man a frickin bone May 5, 2008 Mr. Ricky Lawrence (UK) This is only for the devoted. No doubt the graphics are impressive and the movement realistic but geez man... 0-0 (on a good day) is not my idea of 10 minutes well spent. Also think they should bring out a version where you can take to the linesman with a stick. Offside everytime. If like me you still want to enjoy gaming, best you give this a miss.
College wasters... September 2, 2007 Da Styne I got this game as part of a bundle from my local games store and thus it was the first psp game I played... Although the graphics are notably slower than those on the ps2, the gameplay is still all there... Editing mode was rather a poor effort and does limit a lot of what you can do to the squad, but it more than makes up for this with the multiplayer feature which i will come onto in a second... Whilst there aren't many choices for beginning the game (the main focus being career), the appeal is still there and the game is highly enjoyable... Bar the fact that the referee is extremely strict, games flow with ease (though my copy tended to stutter if more than 12 players were in the picture)... One tiny niggling flaw that slows down the game on occasions is the time it takes for a substitution to be made... It can get rather frustrating after a while but might also work to give you a chance to rethink your tactics... Now, onto the multiplayer... The mainstay of the multiplayer claim of this game is console to console in the same area (if you understand me)... Many a morning was spent playing against my friend at college on a wireless multiplayer which does work remarkably well apart from an occasional jump in graphics... I think one of the biggest appeals for me of multiplayer was the inclusion of a stats page... Every match you play, the score is recorded and your stats are updated so that you get a "Gamer level"... Whilst you can only see your previous 5 results, on the main stats menu you can view your games won, lost, drawn, average win %, average goals scored, average goals conceded... Basically, you can see everything you want to see plus a bit more... The want to improve all of this as well as go up a level made every game all the more tense and exciting (sometimes culminating in at least 10 people crowded round watching)... All in all, if you want a slimmed down version of the ps2 version, this might be a good bet, but only really recommended if you don't want to spend too much on a game... Otherwise, I would recommend you bought PES 6 due to more features, but for cheap laughs, this is a brilliant game...
Disappointing July 21, 2006 Dr. ID Keenan (Scotland, UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Because of the high standards that the Pro Evo franchise has brought to the football genre, I expected a lot from this game but I was sadly disappointed by this PSP version. I also own the PS2 version of this game and I was expecting a streamlined version of that. Unfortunately, not only are the Master League and Cup modes missing from the PSP version but the game play is lacking the bite and the silkiness of its bigger brother. The passing is certainly not as smooth or crisp as on the PS2, making what seems a straightforward pass a chore to execute. There is also no wide view option, meaning that you cannot see all that is going on around the player in possession. This results in a lot of misplaced passes, aimless crosses and opponents appearing out of no where to dissposses you. Glancing at the pitch map to pick a pass is therefore required and normally results in a loss of concentration that in turn also results in loss of possession. Scoring a goal here seems like a much more lucky or random event rather than the result of a carefully constructed move that is the trademark of Pro Evo, which totally takes the satisfaction away from scoring, dragging things down to the level of EA's FIFA series. The lack of a Master League and therefore the absence of the ability to create your own team also takes away the sense of satisfaction at achieving anything in this game. Another frustrating aspect of the game are the loading times. It takes at least a minute to get from your team selection to kicking off. You eventually get a view around the same old stadium that you play in for every game, which looks very small and lacks atmosphere. It could easily be a Scottish premier league ground. The report on Konami? Must try harder, hoping for better next term with Pro Evo 6, although I think I'll stick to buying it on the PS2.
Good game July 14, 2006 Rahim Saddique (U.K) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pro evo 5 is a great game for the psp it has all the plus factors from a fast pace game to cool graphics the only let down for this game is the fact that you can't win trophies you can only stick to season mode which does get a bit boring after a while. But never the less a good game for short journeys
Too Realistic, I would like some fun in game July 10, 2006 C. Palfrey 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this game because at the time it was the best football game on PSP and all my friends where getting it. FIFA06 on PSP was a poor version of the game more like FIFA 2005 rather than 06. So I went for PES5 on PSP. Good reasons to buy this game are that it is very realistic they have got every move and animation you could ever see on a football pitch. You get to control every movement in the game such as where the ball is going and so on. But this extreme realism comes at a price and that is how fun the game is. Most of the time you will be running around trying to get the ball off the other team. And if you do attemped to go near them then 80% of the time you will give a way a foul, you will be lucky to win 1-0 in a game (most of my matches end 0-0). If you are looking for the best football game on the PSP go for the 2006 World Cup game. Yes I know after the world cup it will be old and may not be as realistic as PES5 but the game is very fun to play and gives you great graphics and gameplay that you can enjoy. Plus small things like being able to select the stadium you want to play in. In conclusion if you are looking for a cheap football game on PSP and are only going to play against friend, never the computer, then go for Pro Evo Soccer 5. But if you have the monney go for the world cup 2006 game. You'l be able to enjoy playing the computer, friends and online. Fun=1star Realistic Gameplay=5stars Graphics=2stars Sound=1star Lifespan=1star(if playing on own) 3star(if playing with friends)
