Great depth in this game and plenty of detail, definitely better than the original Championship Manager series and more user-friendly.

2 out of 5 stars SI what have you done!!!   September 25, 2007

I've been playing Champ games since they begun & racked up 25 seasons alone on the green box version on the Amiga. Moving onto CM2, I loved it even more, but then something weird happened - CM 97/98 was sooo biased towards the computer it was unreal!! I'd often have more possession, more shots (18-4 for example) & lose 2-0, 2-1, etc. Thinking this was just a blip I went back to CM2 until falling in love with CM 01/02 again.
I looked forward to the Football Manager games in anticipation, but although everything has been improved on the surface, the game is sooo unrealistic that CM 97/98 strikes to mind. With a strong Liverpool team, I have played 25 games & am currently in 15th position without a win in the last 10 matches!! Using a good attacking 4-4-2 at home & a defence-minded counter-attacking 4-4-2 away from home I started off quite well but due to
players morale dropping like flies (Realistically playing them in the reserves should help them big time but not here) & the players getting injured left right & center, even on normal tackling, I just don't stand a chance. It's a real shame as SI have definitely taken the game one step forwards, three steps back. Feeling frustrated, I have gone back to the (IMHO) definitive version, CM 02/03 on the Xbox - I just hope that SI sort themselves out & listen to criticism & feedback before the 2008 version hits the market...

5 out of 5 stars Jose Mourinho There's A New Manager In Town!   January 8, 2007

Pros: Well, After Two Days Of Downloading The Demo Version, I Went Out And Bought The Real Version For 8.99!
The Games Menus Are Fairly Easy To Navigate Around, And Will Not Leave You Frustrated And Lost!

As Seen In Some Manager Games, The Life Expectancy Is Cut Short Due To The Lack Of Things You Can Do In The Game. However This Is Not Like That! As well As Simply Being A Manager Game That Mealy Relies On Winning All Your Matches It Has Combined Other Competition That Does Not Include Playing A Match.
For Example Some Players May Go To The Media And Tell Them That They Want To Have "First Team Football" Or They Will Consider Leaving The Club.
Also You Need To Keep Your Squad Happy; You Need To Give Them Praise During Matches At Half Time And Full Time.

The Players And Teams Stats Are Pretty Close To Those In Real Life, This Makes The Game Much Better As If You Are A Team Like Workington, You Will Have A Hard match Playing A Top Team Like Barcelona!

All In All I Highly Recommend This Game To Anybody Who Is In To Football Management Games And Want Value for Money!!!

Cons: If You Are A Person Who Likes To Get "Easy Wins" This Game Will More Than Likely Not Be for You!

Also Sadly The Game Lacks The Ability To Simply Skip Matches And Go Straight To The Scoreline, Meaning A Match You Play Will Take Around 15 Minutes If You Put It On As Fast As Possible!

Just As A Footnote: This Is My First Review Of A Game, Please Tell Me How I Can Improve It Or If It Helps!

4 out of 5 stars Nice work guys!   October 20, 2006

More realistic than it should be. Tacics are key. Conference football allows for a more gung ho approach, while going through the leagues requires more subtle changes in defence. With Accrington we got out of the conference and league 2 by scoring alot of goals and conceding many, this doesn't work in the championship or premiership. Signing players for small fees and making them into world beaters is great. Signed two players for the premiership for 50k and 40k and both would be in the prem team of the year! Ivan Ivanov and Timo Salo! It is tough and going up leagues is tough. Changing tactics throughout games is important. Tightening defence near the end to hold onto leads, or extra attacker to nick a draw or win. Never assume the starting tactic will win the match. Each team plays a different way and changing tactics to beat them is key. Beating chelsea away by counter attacks and good defence, giving them no good chances was quality! This is a great game, there are minor bugs which are annoying but that doesn't change the enjoyment of the game. Trying to get Accrington into Europe is my next objective and at the moment doing well, chelsea away next should be a good game!

This game is amazin its realistic not so easy like taking a team like yeovil to win the champions league you have to work for it and its 100 times better than championship manager 2006 that game is so slow just to start the season this game is fast and great to play recommend this over that. Take your team to the premiership or start lowest division try get your way up and establish yourself. Get this game if you have 9 10 quid spare and just buy the 2007 upadte for 2 quid great a++++++++ game.
