 Challenging Routes November 7, 2008

A nice blast from the past. The rolling stock is excellent, the routes varied and all with their own challenges and the graphics are good. There's enough to keep the MSTS enthusiast enthralled for hours here. Well recommended.

Tonbridge Driver
Having driven the routes & stock over the past 25 years, (I'm an ex-Tonbridge driver) I was blown away by the realism of this sim. It was great fun to be 'driving' the old familiar routes which I know like the back of my hand, again. The realism of the acceleration & braking characteristics is quite uncanny, I can now enjoy the driving without having to get up at 4 in the morning! A couple of things are wrong: the last signal before entering a terminal is always a single yellow (not green as in this sim), the maximum brake cylinder pressure on an EMU is 55 psi (not 100), and one minor point, Chislehurst signal box is on the wrong side. Other than that it's perfect. I don't think the current 3m. simulators that SE Trains currently use are as good as this.

I have many MSTS add-ons, and this one, London and South East, is among the best. It has a very wide range of rolling stock and a big network of routes. You can start at London and head out to Tonbridge, Redhill, Uckfield and the like - it's an abseloutely enormous network of routes that will entertain a MSTS enthusiast for hours.
Rolling stock is very realistic, with many locos and multiple units, ranging from Class 33 diesels to the London to Gatwick Rail-Air class 427s. Sadly none of them have passenger views, but the quality of the stock makes up for this.
Activities are fun to play, have realistic timetables, and feature freight runs, south London commuter runs and fast Express services.
Overall the L&SE add-on is excellent, apart from one big bad point:
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A POWERFUL GRAPHICS CARD, OR A PC THAT IS ABLE TO GENERATE THE GRAPHICS, THEN THIS ADD-ON WILL CRASH MSTS LEAVING YOU HAVING TO RE-INSTALL THE WHOLE PROGRAM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME COUNTLESS TIMES, AND IT ONLY WORKS ON ONE OF OUR PC'S
If you've got a powerful pc and graphics card, then buy this. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this game hoping for something fantastic. Instead of being fantastic, it not only doesnt work but has crashed my whole Microsoft train simulator!
i would not recommend buying this!

This add-on is quite simply BRILLIANT. It features everything that I remember fron the route back in the day.
The activities are great, the rolling stock is spot-on and the overall presentation is very professional indeed. I have got several routes from other sources (download etc) and this is definitely a cut above the rest.
A WORD OF WARNING: If you own an old or slow computer...think carefully about this add-on!! It needs a pretty good PC to run it, although the detail/graphic settings can be dropped.....its criminal for such a nicely produced route.
I didn't really know what to expect...i'm made up!!
