Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
The finest football simulation series receives further refinements in Pro Evolution Soccer 4. The presence of an on-screen referee is perhaps the game's most obvious new feature. What's more, this twenty-third being on the pitch is more intelligent than his invisible predecessors: advantages are played more frequently and the fairness of decisions is improved. Another welcome new feature is that of player-specific special moves, whereby only certain gifted footballers will have outlandish tricks in their repertoire--very much in keeping with real life.

Although there was little room for improvement over Pro Evolution Soccer 3's supreme gameplay, Konami has seemingly found it. Dribbling has been given especial attention; the result is tighter control. Crosses, too, are now easier to perform exactly as desired. Also, penalty kicks and free kicks offer increased accuracy with their adoption of a new control system.

Some 136 club sides, including all 56 teams of the Spanish, Italian and Dutch leagues (these are officially licensed) are on offer in Pro Evolution Soccer 4, as well as 50-odd national teams. The Xbox version also features online play via Xbox Live. Typically, this new version of Pro Evolution is the most comprehensive to date--the new season in videogame football kicks off in spectacular fashion. --Jonti Davies

5 out of 5 stars pro evo go   May 1, 2006
JZ 900 (U.K)
AWESOME!

Pro evo 4 is an excellent game. There are over 50 national temas and plenty of club teams. The graphics are of good quality and it has graet gameplay. there are a wide range of on screen challenges and the computer has become even more difficult. The players are faster and have more control of the ball in this than PES3. The tricks look real and as a game it is moderate. GO FOR THIS NOT FIFA 2004! This game is ANOTHER CLASS!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very good yet not outstanding   December 28, 2005

Ok, so i decided to go for pro evo 4 rather than pro evo 5 for two reasons 1)it was about 4 times cheaper and 2)pro evo 5 was suppose to be to hard.

So..I got pro evo 4 wacked it on and played a match. brilliant it was outstanding in fact, realistic, not stupidly hard yet still quite challenging and general alround fun. I think that sums up pro evo 4 really.

Now alot of people may not like the pro evo series for it being un licensed and not all proper names etc. Well personally that dosn't bother me because im not that into football so arn't really worried and id much rather have good game play. But the thing that let this game down are the menus and selection screens, i honestly think i could have done better, they are abismal in every way :( .

However this game in my opinion is THE greatest football game, so do your self a favour stop playing fifa games and buy a proper fottie game.

5 out of 5 stars The only football game on the XBOX   September 5, 2005

If you have an xbox and need a football game,Pro evo is the only for you.
I started(like everyone)buying the fifa series and found them getting worse and worse everytime.I needed some thing different so i got pro evo 3 on my PC and found it so much better.Once i heard pro evo 4 was coming to the xbox i was over the moon and hoped i wouldn't be disapointed.I wasn't.
Pro evo hasn't got the licences or the quantity of teams on fifa but has far superior gameplay.
Pro evo has the master league (the equivelent to career mode)which keeps you entertained + amused for hours and hours. It also has xbox live which is also great. If you also take a little time you can put right all the unlicensed players and teams on edit mode.If you haven't already bought it, buy it because your missing out.

Graphics - 8/10 Not amazing but still very good

Gameplay - 10/10 You won't get better

Lifespan - 7/10 won't keep you going forever but has live

5 out of 5 stars Must buy for Xbox   August 3, 2005

Already hit the "Classics" on the shelves, this game is a definate buy for players offline or on. So much to learn, so much to do. The player structures have been lifted from the previous games to give the game a new edge over it's competitors. You control the player, and the ball, as opposed to pre-determined moves in other games.

The Master League stands on the original basis of you manage and play your team from the lowest league, and slowly build them up and increase your status and experience as you move along. Buying in players must be dealt with carefully, as wages and transfer money can be spent easily, and as soon as you go in the red when the season ends....Game Over.

Xbox Live - As a big fan of Xbox Live, this game has to be one of the best along side Ghost Recon 2. I just keep coming back for more (after 5 months of having this game), I'm still playing online. Great people to meet, although a few prefer to play silently. It opens up a new area of football and is very addictive and enjoyable to play on Live. Only for two players, but you find yourself setting up players, strategies and formations just so you can get that extra chance at goal.

Overall, one of the best football games ever. If you don't like football, you'll still like this game....even my girlfriend plays and she hates the game in real life ;-)

5/5
