Midnight Club II March 23, 2004 J. Mckenzie (Leeds) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've never owned or played a racing game before this one so I can't compare to any other. I was bought this as a Christmas present and I've got to say it is thoroughly enjoyable and involving. As most people above agree it is a great game, the graphics are good the physics engine gives the game a realistic feel and because you are racing in streets rather than a track the sense of speed is heightened. It's not a game for kids, there is mild swearing and the constant splat of cars hitting pedestrians as well as the occasional screams of "OH you've killed my baby" make it so. There are 3 modes: Circuit - As it sounds Capture the flag - Apparently this is a classic game format Career - This is the most involving of all, you race steadily improving racers in steadily improving cars and each time you beat them over 2 races you win their car. The game is heavy on resources and definitely requires a 64meg graphics card as a minimum. You also require an analogue game pad or steering wheel, the game is almost impossible using the keyboard particularly when you have the higher performance cars. The game is finishable, as I said above I am a novice to this type of game but have managed to complete everything, albeit it took me 3 months. One nice touch at the end is that all the way through the game you find yourself wishing you could go back to the races which caused you so much difficulty and try them again with your new car. When you beat Savo (the world champion) you get to do just that with all the cars you have ever won (including Savo's) in your garage. It took me 2 nights to complete the game from start to finish once I had his. If you can persevere until you have his car it makes the circuit races and capture the flag battles much easier.

GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND HOLD ON...THIS RACER FLIES!!! November 8, 2003 R. Personal 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
What can I say, Rockstar, creators of the famous GTA series, have kicked some more competitions butt. If you loved the GTA series, this game is much more than an add-on, extension, or continuation. If you have no driving skills and do not like racing games with FAST ,REALLY FAST, vehicles, than do not buy this game. If you think you will finish this game in one night....FORGET THAT. If you have no game pad or steering wheel, you will throw the game out in 5 minutes. I had to go out the next day and buy another game pad since I busted my first trying to keep up with the other racers. The only DOWNSIDE is the motorcycles views are crazy. If you like high speed bikes, over 340km/h, this game will have your eyes sore in ten minutes. The camera does move way too weirdly on the bikes and is really hard to see what is going on. I have finished only 70% in a period of 20 hours. Yes it is hard, yes it is fast, but this game will be replayed many times. Jumps, nitro, lights, and AI really keep the heart racing... Graphics are fab, sounds are cool, vehicles are plentiful and well varied, game play is tough, system requirements are heavy. I love this game, WELL DONE ROCKSTAR!!! NO PATCHES NEEDED.
Not as good as expected August 31, 2003 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a great idea and could have been so good, but it's just not. If you expect the same excellent driving game engine as Grand Theft Auto you will be disappointed. Although the game is very playable the basic game play is not as good. The worst part is that it gets irritatingly hard, very quickly. I've been playing driving games for over 10 years and I have given up with 90% of the game still undone. If you're very good at driving games or very persistant it may be the game for you, if not steer clear.
Excellent gameplay and dangerously addictive. July 26, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Getting to the raw facts, this game is simply awesome. When you first play, it seems like any other racing game, but as you progress you'll see its way beyond your average racing game. The game is a mix between the 'Need For Speed' series and 'Grand Theft Auto 3 '. Instead, of linear tracks, you have large diverse cities, full of people and traffic. In these cities, you get to cruise around at night, looking for other racers with whom you get to race with afterwards. There are the standard game modes like, circuit racing, but other modes like capture the flag and battle. That said, I found the career mode to be most playble and it is required to unlock all the cars in the game. The missions are difficult as you progress, but you'll probably get soo hooked to the game, you'll keep on trying again and again untill you win the race. Although the graphics arn't the most realistic i've seen, it still looks amazing and manages to capture the night street racing atmosphere extremely well. Coming to the audio in the game, the music is just perfect for this style of game. A mixture of heavily basslined hip-hop and dance really boosts the atmosphere in the game and if you don't like it you can always add your own mp3s! If you somehow manage to get bored with playing the computer you can always play against others in a LAN or over the internet, which suprisingly worked really smoothly with little of the common lag problems you find in most other games of this type. Even if you don't play racing games very much, you'll love this game, simply because of its sheer playability.
