Amazon.co.uk Review Metal Gear Solid, one of the most prestigious of all PlayStation game series, is now playable on GameCube. Owners of Nintendo's console will no doubt be celebrating already--with good reason, too. Essentially, Twin Snakes is an updated version of the original Metal Gear Solid PlayStation outing. A new graphics engine--which is every bit as impressive as that of the PS2's Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty--brings the original action bang up to date. While the storyline in Twin Snakes adheres closely to the original's, the way in which it is told is markedly improved: the original voiceover cast has re-recorded every conversation in the game, giving Twin Snakes a fresh take on a finely weaved plot of intrigue. A first-person perspective is introduced for those who wish to really soak up the Cold War atmosphere, while new cutscenes complete what is a comprehensive makeover for this legendary adventure. Gameplay is as sharp and intuitive as ever: Solid Snake is one super sleuth, his repertoire of actions is considerable, and controlling those actions is perfectly straightforward. It's a good job, really: the quality of the Artificial Intelligence means that precise control is vital if Snake is to halt the nuclear war that is afoot. Thanks in no small part to its AI, Twin Snakes has an atmosphere that is wonderfully intense--for late-night gaming, this really is video-game perfection. --Jonti Davies

Wow, just wow! December 10, 2008 DuRgEy (United Kingdom) This is the first MGS game ever played. Just wow! If you've ever played an MGS game before then you'll know what I mean. This game excels in all aspects. It's got a great storyline and it's fun to play. Sorry no multiplayer here. I'm not sure it really needs one though... Getting into more detail; this is great remake of the original Metal Gear Solid game for the PlayStation one. Obviously the graphics have been seriously revamped but aside form that some extra features were added: Two new weapons, a boss mode, "ghost photographs" and a 1st person mode. If you're about 8 years old... you souldn't be playing this game. There is however an otpion to turn the blood off if (like me) you're quite squeemish. First person mode just spoils the game and makes it too easy. Which is why Revolevr Ocelot is so easy. If you want to kill him properly DO NOT go into 1st person mode. But more importantly is the storyline. MGS games have always been incredibly rich in storylines, Twin Snakes is no different. What really interested me was the fact that you could alter the course of gameplay. I won't give you any spoilers but I will tell you that its OK to give into Ocelot's torture but be wary that it comes at a price. The biggest problem with the game is it's SO DAMN SHORT. You could complete this in about 2 days including ghost photos if you catch on well. This game slots into the MGS storyline easy and is better than the original. If you're still not convinced to buy it then I don't know what will, this game is fun and inovative. Hard at times but it's all good. Just one more thing, when fighting Psycho Mantis, put your controller in the FOURTH controller socket. Give the game a go. If you like it,get MGS2 ont he PS2 or PC. And that concludes my review. BUY IT!
Great to play September 10, 2008 Luke Gimson (Bath,England)
If you played the first metal gear solid and found it enjoyable then this is a must get game for you and any fans of the Metal gear solid series. The Graphics are the biggest thing that made me enjoy this game as much as i did when i first played it on the Playstation. The first person mode helps out a lot aswell. The good thing about this game is that they havent missed anything out from the Playstation version, if anything they added extra gameplay in! So overall if youve played the original game on the ps1 then you must get this game as you will love to see everything in better graphics. If you havent played the ps1 version then you may find the game a bit akward but still and good game for any Gamecube Collection!
Excellent August 7, 2008 A. Hallgarth (Scunthorpe, NLincs, UK) The Twin Snakes is a very good game. Infact this is the only game I own for Gamecube. This is a remake of Metal Gear Solid and the experience is somewhat different from the PS1 version, which is strange. I place it down to the music and the extra features such as first person aiming, hanging and rolling and the fact that the whole audio was re-recorded and most importantly the upgraded graphics. One thing I noticed was that there is barely any cutscenes that doesn't involve Snake leaping in the air, it can get a little OTT, but at the end of the day the whole metal gear story is a bit OTT. although the cutscenes that feature emotion from the characters are nicely toned down so that snake isn't leaping in the air during the bathroom scene unexplicably. the actual game is very short, when skipping cutscenes the player can complete the game in just over an hour, although every second of it is highly enjoyable and fun. A must if you enjoy the MGS series and want to see a different take on the classic story.
Brilliant remake of a classic game June 29, 2008 Mr. S. Jacobs (UK) I'm such a massive fan of the metal gear solid series and I recently completed the original metal gear solid for playstation 1 again to refresh my memory. I love the shadow moses storyline so with the updated graphics and the ability to use MGS2 moves/actions incorporated into this remake the game truly becomes amazing to play. The graphics are similar to MGS2 but are lacking a few finishing touches, for example Meryl seems to have been hit with the ugly club a few times but none the less the overall graphics and modifications are an extreme improvement from the original. The moves and actions are more or less the same as MGS2 as you can use first person shooting, you can hang, and even hold soldiers up to collect dog tags like in MGS2, however since Twin Snakes was only released for Nintendo the Nintendo control pad makes controlling snake a little awkward at times, but does not hinder the majority of game play. A lot of the original cut scene stories have been changed slightly, which is both a good thing as well as bad. some of them didn't need to have been modified and were great the way they were. If you haven't played the original this won't bother you at all. Twin Snakes is actually my favourite game of all the metal gear solid series including the newest addition. Just for the simple fact that snake is young, I love all the boss battles and the game play combined with a brilliant storyline makes this my favourite metal gear solid game overall. Don't get me wrong I love the newest metal gear solid as well, but I just don't think the game play is as interesting and the new metal gear solid is a little depressing to play for me personally because solid snake is on his last legs. In conclusion this game is an excellent remake of a timeless classic and I think it's great fun to play and revisit shadow moses for an improved experience.
THE TWIN SNAKES My Review January 16, 2008 C. N. Rider Owning this Video Game is a must for any METAL GEAR Fan.. All these complaints about it being ruined or whatever is just... Lame. I mean sure the Voices are lacking... (Some new Voice Actors make an appearance like MEI LING & NAOMI) I myself have no problem with them... But i personally bought it for the Extended Movies that the Original did not have... It has whole new Game Play (which i mainly bought it for) which makes it easyer but so much fun.. (The Dog Tags have returned from SONS OF LIBERTY on SONY PLAYSTATION 2) ...First time around you will be amazed. I think it's good to be on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE, the controls are nearly perfect, the Graphics are better obviously... I have no problems with it... The Music is nice... But to put this Review to an end, it's basically a must have for your NINTENDO GAMECUBE Collection. Especially if your an METAL GEAR Fan.
