White riot, I wanna riot!!! Just not to think about it. November 16, 2003 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
If you want a game to stretch your mental abilities, I'd suggest you look somewhere else, because this will not really be for you. However, if you just want to smash windows and burn down some shops during a full-scale riot, you've come to the right place. First thing to say about this game is it has virtually no depth. Just destroy as much public property as possible, and kill anyone who tries to stop you. Despite this, in the short term at least, it's fantastic fun. Mowing down twenty security guards with a minigun then blowing up a department store is a top way to get that stress out of your system. In multiplayer mode, it's even better. Apparently, there is no multiplayer mode on the PS2, but on the Xbox, it's probably the best part of the game. Get a bunch of mates and wander round a shopping centre breaking windows and shooting each other. The graphics are decent, though hardly groundbreaking. Everything is nice and colourful, and it doesn't slow down, even with the ridiculous amount of characters that appear on the sceen at any one time. None of this really matters, though. The game is about rioting, and that's what it is; a riot!
Fun for a while.... October 14, 2003 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dont buy this game if you want a game that stretches your brain power because this does not!, However it does its job well and you can pick it up for a quick go every now and then. The game play invloves running around various locations and smashing things up or killing people!(told you it wont stretch the old grey matter!) there is a variety of things to hit/stab/burn people with as well as lots of game modes. The graphics are ok but they dont stretch the X-box in any way and with the multiplayer this games a real blast,In fact multiplayer is the best way to play it as the single player side of the game soon becomes boring. So in a nutshell buy this game if you like frantic arcade action and some good fun multiplayer,if you dont like arcadey/fighting games then avoid.
Simple concept, beautifully done May 20, 2003 Danwow (England) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game does not have the depth of many similar (gta-alike) games, but it does offer several modes of play that are perfect for a quick burst of anarchy to put a smile back on your face! The sheer number of civilians on the screen is amazing (with no noticeable drop in frame rate), and the AI they posses is good. The four areas are well detailed, with the only gripe being you cannot enter the shops in the mall etc. The control system is simple to get to grips with, although some may find it overly simple. The two modes, Kaos and Revolution, do add slightly different elements to the game. Kaos is a points based riot-a-thon with a points target that must be scored in order to progress. Revolution is mission based, which despite some of the missions being similar, is still enjoyable. Unlockable characters and modes provide some incentive to complete levels, although some may find the game over too quickly. All in all this game does what it says on the box - brings a rioting city to life, and lets the player get into the thick of it. This gives a new take on a classic genre for a reasonable price.
Ultimate Stress Relief April 27, 2003 Rioter 66 (Nowhere) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
State of Emergency is a great game. In my humble opinion, it is better than any executive stress ball ever made [especially the special Last Clone Standing missions!]. In simple terms, the game is based around rioting: killing police, other gang members and simple civilians; destroying buildings; smashing windows, tables, peoples faces! The mission section of the game is reasonable, with several good missions, but repetition in the style of mission too. This mode doesn't even compare to Chaos. In Chaos mode, you have several options: 1. Chaos. Time limit, get points by killing people and blowing up cars and stuff. 2. Last Clone Standing. Kill 200 unarmed people in the shortest time possible, great after a day at work or school! This level needs to be unlocked though [easy to do] 3. Unlimited. Don't know, haven't unlocked it yet. It's all such a laugh. Weapons: Ak47, M16, Uzi, Pistol, axe, baseball bat, table, chair, sword, leg, head.. the list goes on. Everything u can see is usable and destroyable, even the buildings! Conclusion: not GTA, not supposed to be. Fun to play. Good multiplayer [u use the Chaos mode]. Ultimate Stress Relief Oh yeah, read the PS2 reviews, other people have different opinions!
state of the best April 13, 2003 S. Teasdale (County Durham, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I think this is a really good game and you should to. It has improved graphics that the ps2 game never had and also has extra features. It has a new multiplayer mode where you can go against 3 friends or team up with them in a co-oprative game. It has more pixels than the last game to give it that crisp look. More weapons are available and you can have more than 200 characters on screen at a time and to top it off you can destroy nearly everything around you and use anything you see as a weapon. Hope this review was helpful.
