5 out of 5 stars You MUST ignore anyone that has given this game a negative review!   January 4, 2009
Bradley Baum (London, England)
This game Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Xbox 360)has been made in glorious bright colours and wonderful humour. It has all the elements of the original two games only with the added twist of havi9ng to create your own vehicles whichj are needed not just to access new areas in the main central hub but also for getting exceeedingly fast times in the various challenges in the various areas entered by going through the various doors.

In the main hub area the collecting is done in the traditional way, on foot (shouldn't the expression be 'on feet' as two are generally used not just one....) but in the various areas entered by going through the doors a vehicle of some sort is used. Once you have entered a land by going through a door and find a challenge to attempt you will see that you are not stuck with the vehicle you entered the land with as the character setting the task will always give the option for you to change vehicles. This means that you can (if you want to) change to one that you think is better suited to the task you are about to attempt but only, obviously, if you have found enough parts in the main hub area to build various vehicles!

When it comes to building the vehicle there are blueprints that can be bought but you are not limited to them. Nope, the only thing limiting you is your imigination. Oh, and physics but then that shouldn't really be a problem as I'm sure that you, like me, are bright enough to deal with the problem of physics!

The multi-player game consists of lots of races and in it's own way is just as good as the single player game. It also puts even more thought into the vehicle building because any edge could be just enough to win!

This is quite simply a game of epic proportions (when compered to something like Prince of Persia which can be one hundred percent completed in eight to ten hours and Left 4 Dead which can be one hundred percent completed in just six!) with everthing a Banjo-Kazooie fan loves with a new twist cleverly mixed in. All those 'fans' that have given this game a poor review, well as far as I'm concerned either they have not given this game the time and play it deserves or they have just dismissed it without having even tried it b ecause at the end of the day everything is there, you just have to find it!

4 out of 5 stars platform elements - inventive gameplay   January 2, 2009

For someone who was well known to the franchise, I was a bit sceptical and disappointed that Rare decided to take the familiar style to a new place.
I popped in the disc and I was greeted with a nice beginning all full of knowing satirical sideswipes at different genres but feeling a little gutted that it wasnt like the old games.
After playing for half an hour, I turned it off and decided to try the old game. I thought to myself "this game is far better". I had spent more time on it than the new one.
After a few days, I decided to give Nuts and Bolts another try and I finally "Got it". It takes a while of getting into, a bit like a good book or a film. Once you get what is expected of you, you are hooked. The building tools daunted me as I feel I am more creative with words than construction but you really dont need to be.
It is probably best not to rent this game but to buy it as it will take considerable time to beat it. But highly recommended and keep at it.

This is the best game that Rare has ever made,
and easily in the top 3 exclusives on the 360.
In fact from the time I got some parts a bit early after a bit of ingenuity, namely the folding wings, detacher, self destruct and the helium balloons, and then after building a car that could turn into a vtol aircraft, I decided that this was the most enjoyable game that I had played on the 360.
The detail and colour in the worlds trounces every other game on the 360. yes inc fable2 and gow2 And the details and animations on the vehicle parts are something to behold. the size of the different themed worlds is also impressive and they are each individually atmospheric, magical and interesting. They are fun even to just play around in without taking part in challenges. if you want to see your 360 pushed to the max this is the game to do it.
Don't listen to people complaining about handling either, yes your vehicle will skew wildly if you have too little weight or may be difficult to turn if you have too much power.
The races whether on land sea or air are like taking part in the wacky races, a myriad of different contraptions on the starting grid and no real rules except to get across the finish line first, you can choose to play it clean and fast or just plain dirty by using one of the 50 or so contraptions to blow them up, freeze them, make them skid etc.
The non race challenges push you to move away from making straight cars or planes or helicopters and usually require some brain work on how to get the best results a bit like the TV show the great egg race if you ever saw that.
the music is classic with some really memorable themes and the sound effects are subtly the best to be heard in a game yet.
As you play you find more and better parts to build with. This RPG like levelling up changes the way you build vehicles and approach challenges and races. It's fun to go back to a race you scraped though with a small propeller now packing a large jet.
This is a real awesome piece of software and one of the showcases of this generation of hardware.
don't be fooled by the cute bear
don't be put off if you were expecting a platformer
don't miss this if you are a true gamer
don't be put off by the demo either it can be a bit overwhelming after months of 3rd/FPSs.
don't be put off by the 1 star reviews people have posted for childish reasons.

just to mention ,, they have fixed the text size,

and i noticed that while in a vehicle the left bumper if you press while moving the camera, can change camera control from springlook to freelook..and back... excellent little touch.

5 out of 5 stars A near perfect game- blends platformer and karting games into something FRESH!   December 1, 2008

I just completed BK:N&B earlier today and after being a little disappointed in the demo I am relieved to say that this has become possibly my favourite game of the year. I want to break down my review and actually discuss the title, rather than merely complain about any expectations (see the 1-star reviews for that).

Gameplay:
Originally I felt a little displeased by the new direction of the Banjo franchise however it quickly became apparent that everything I loved from the previous titles was here in spades. The game has charm and the wit and gameplay wise blends together platformer with Mario Kart to make something ultimately synergistic- this far surpasses anything I have played before in either genre. I never felt bored like I would in a Kart game and the platforming was never a chore- if I felt things were too slow or too difficult it was up to me to change it.
If a game could really be described using one word I probably couldn't do better than "Refreshing" for this title. This is not to say there aren't flaws, the learning curve at the beginning of the game is a little high but that's easily forgiven because of the originality, I just needed to adjust to a new style of game. Vehicle building is so incredibly simple and intuitive I couldn't complain if I wanted to, and your imagination really is the limit once you have enough raw material.

The game really encouraged my imagination, something I usually let the games handle for me, and I would find myself building utterly useless machines just for sheer entertainment.

Quality:
I didn't experience a single bug in this game, which in itself is quite brilliant considering the decline in craftmanship that has taken hold of much of the game industry since patches have become so easily distributed. The only issue I had with the game that was coded in was the fast pace of text in some scenes, not allowing me to read the entire sentence, but this never prevented me from understaning my objectives.
The world that Rare (the developer) built is beautiful and flows together so smoothly that it is difficult to grasp just how big it is, despite this graphical touches never seem to have been skimped.

Replayability:
Infinite.

Best suited audience:
This game has a wide appeal, I would imagine children would enjoy it as soon as they understood the controls, and parents would probably be terrible "back seat drivers" always eager to design vehicles.
For me however, I am a 21 year old who was a bit tired of shooters and killing people (after playing Saints Row 2 for a week), and this game renewed my enthusiasm for gaming.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent game!   November 21, 2008

Banjo-Kazooie has returned from its ten year hiatus in this awesome 360 sequel. All the characters are back, and so is the hilarious dialogue. Rare has a brilliant sense of humour and even mocks itself from time to time!

Adding in vehicles was a bold step, but it pays off. The ability to design your own transportation is really well thought out. It is simple, yet the possibilities are endless. There are also 'blue-prints' of vehicles if you have trouble building your own - or don't know where to start off!

You can paint your vehicle, name it, and test it out before you use it on the missions.

As with the previous two games, the music is excellent and really brings the worlds to life. It might be worth noting that it was the same composer who worked on the earlier Banjo games! For those complaining about the vehicle based gameplay - there is quite a bit of platform gameplay present. And on top of that, you get to download the original game from XBOX LIVE for FREE!

The mutliplayer mode is OK, could've been better, but I'm not really bothered - the single player is too much fun!
