1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money   January 2, 2009
Mr. Pa Wallis
I got pro evolution for christmas and I have played it once and I am
taking it back as the gameplay is bad and the graphics are terrible.
If I was you go out and buy FIFA 2009 and stay with the fifa brand
as the gameplay and graphics are far superior, with FIFA the players
look like the real life player the set up menu is laid out better
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EA SPORTS!!

4 out of 5 stars Great Gameplay   December 30, 2008

I got this game for Christmas and i was really looking forward to playing it, and when it finally installed it was as i expected - Super.

The gameplay is excellent, the players are very realistic and make instinctive runs and find space - which you need to do as the game is very much evolved around possesion football. Plus you actually win 50-50 challenges whcih makes a change to previous editions.

The graphics are also brilliant, with some of the players looking identical and the saves and tricks are very realistic.

The new modes - uefa champions league and Become a legend are apparently great according to other reviews, i havent tried become a legend yet. But the champions league mode is very good and adds that extra touch to the game.

The commentary is good from jon champion and mark lawrencen, it does not repeat itself.

So basically everything is great in my view, except two minor things

One - the crowd and chant noises are a bit pathetic, for example the Liverpool chant is sung in japanese and sounds nothing like them

Two - As always the fact that they dont have all clubs licensed lets them down - only 2 english clubs licensed - at least my team Liverpool are. the uefa champions league mode helps slightly with this though.

But you should buy it its great fun.

1 out of 5 stars Not fully developed for PC (Vista)   December 27, 2008

Great game but a pig to install. The game has to like your video card and your Vista video settings (user specific) - otherwise it just falls over when you start a match, no clues given. Two patches later it works on a poor resolution following a factory-reset of the video settings. Stick to the Xbox 360 version.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff!!   December 7, 2008

After playing Pro Evo 2008 for a bit, I took a look at some reviews here and really scratched my head with confusion at what was being said about it. However, now that I've been playing Pro Evo 2009 I can see where the faults were with Pro Evo 2008.

Still, having read a few reviews here concerning Pro Evo 2009 I am again left feeling rather bemused. I have to say that for me the graphics are excellent, as are the sound effects, and the gameplay is wonderful. The only minutest piece of criticism is that the commentary can be a bit repetitive after a while - Mark Lawrenson's(SP?) "Well, he's been taken off. He can't really complain, etc etc," is seriously annoying after a while, especally, for instance, in "Become a Legend" after you've had a good game... Grrrrrr!

Anyhow, speaking of that, my absolute favourite part of this game is the "Become a Legend" Ay Yi! Yi! I don't normally get addicted to games, I play them for a bit and get bored after a while, but the "Become a Legend" is, for me, completely and utterly addictive. I keep telling myself "One more game" LOL!

All in all I certainly recommend this - Five stars all round. In my opinion, Pro Evo 2009 is far more life-like than Pro Evo 2008, and "Become a Legend" adds a whole new dimension to Pro Evo 2009.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   November 11, 2008

I fail to understand all the criticism.
Get a wireless x-box 360 controller for your PC, plug in and play. The graphics have been criticised a few times for some reason but I think they look great: good player likenesses and a crisp, clean overall look. The gameplay is vastly superior to the last version and it plays an excellent game of football. The 50-50 challenges are NOT always won by the computer; you must be doing something badly wrong as for me they are dependant on the player's strength and skill.
Defending is good: cover the passes, close the space. When they score you don't feel cheated, it feels like you made a mistake and was punished. Attacking is also well done: through balls are not always pefect but that adds to the realism (even Stevie G gets a few wrong!). Shooting takes a bit of getting used to but becomes second nature and creates some great moments. Crossing and heading is much improved on older versions and it all feels smooth and right.
And in terms of the argument about how many teams are licenced: its a daft argument. The player names are spot on and it is just club names and badges that are not official. The solution is not to buy FIFA - just patch it! You own a PC, the patch exists - dowload it...no more whinging!
Overall this comes highly reccomended. The excellent menus and presentation adds the the wondeful game of football it plays. If you love and understand football - buy this. If you don't, cant stand sometimes losing or are under the age of 12 - buy FIFA.
