Watch out! Ours was great until a few short weeks after the expiry of the warranty. Then it died. Microsoft want 60 to repair it. Most reviews here are from people who've just got it and are dead dead pleased...... Maybe they'll feel the same as us when theirs dies too. Don't buy.

I have had my 60GB ps3 for going on two years now and whislt it has been fun both online and offline, i feel that i was missing out on some truly great gaming, therefore i decided to get one for christmas.

Setup was fairly simple, i didn't particulary need the instructions because i am used to seting gaming consoles up and it is quite easy.

so what about this cusred red ring of death (RROD) issue. Well i thought i got it, let me explain:

I was certain that the power cable was attached properley, in this case it wasnt and when i was playing gears of war 2 it switched itself off and gave me four red rings. Fixed it though and it works fine now.

As for graphics the console is capable of resolutions up tp 1080P (1920 x 1080), much like the PS3. So graphics wise it looks good but it isn't so far ahead that the PS3 can't bloody keep up.

Controller ergonomics have improved since the previous Xbox console, the controller is lighter, buttons are closer to each other and the battery pack is very easy to replace.

So what do you get with the new Falcon Units, well beside being cooler you get:

Component cable ( no HDMI cable)
Ethernet cable
xbox 360 Joypad with batteries
power plug and AC adapter
a month free of gold LIVE
and a headset with a Mic

To recharge your controller you need a play and charge kit that is normally around 7-10 and a HDMI cable is about 3 so it wont cost too much to get those little extras.

Xbox LIVE - i have been on today and despite everyone complaining about the level of abuse, i can safely say that i haven't encountered any as of yet. fingers crossed i dont but hey who knows.

There are avfew other features you can do such as:

windows media centre - share music, flims and pictures with your PC via the ethernet cable

download movies from LIVE

communicate with friends via Instant messaging, voice chat or video chat. you can have up to 6 people using voice chat via the LIVE party system.

Im sure there is a lot more to cover but i didn't want to yammer on forever. This for me is a fantastic source of entertainment and is easily the best value for money when it comes to next gen consoles.

final score - 9.5/10

looses half a point for that god awful AC adapter and the DVD tray is still loud :D

I got my XBox 360 for Christmas and it was really easy to setup, only took 10 minutes. The console GUI is very easy to navigate around and I quickly setup my gamertag.

After reading many reviews about the noise problems from the 360, I can't understand what their moaning about, it's really quiet! I admit it is noisy when the game is running on the DVD drive, but this is quickly fixed by installing the game on your harddrive. The harddrive is 60GB so there is loads of room to install games.

The XBox 360 controller is amazing, I found it very easy to adapt to (Playstation user) and the best thing about it is it's wireless. It can also be used to turn the console on and off.

So far I've had no problems with overheating, the console keeps cool after 3 hours of playing GTA4, I keep it on my desk with nothing to block the air ventilation.

I would recommend this console to anyone as it's easy to use and has a wide range of games available.

10/10

1 out of 5 stars A noisy piece of junk wrapped in cheap plastic.   December 26, 2008

You might think that this is a PS3-fanboy attack, but since I own both a Xbbox 360 and Playstation 3 consols, this is not the case. I bought my Xbox 360 console a little over a year ago, and I must admit that I have enjoyed playing several great games on it. The graphics are great, and generally the games run well, or at least they used to, but more about that later on.

The first impression of this console makes one word spring to mind: DISCOUNT! The outer shell is made from cheap, squeaky plastic, and the DVD drive does not make a great impression - even the cheapest PC drives appears a lot more quality-like compared to this. And then there is the noise when it's running - It is VERY loud. After some time you get used to it, depending of the level of absorbtion the game you are playing manages puts you in, but is is NOISY. The overall impression is that this is not a quality product.

And then there is the hardware issues. For me it all started with GTA IV - somtimes it would crash for no appearant reason. I know that this can happen regardless of the platform you're using, but when I had finished the game, I noticed som scratches on the disc. They had miraculously appeared while the game had been inserted in the console. This is a well-known issue (appearently about 55.000 people have experienced this - WOW! That's a lot), and according to Microsoft, it only happens when you move the console while a game is running. It does say so in the manual, and if I'm not mistaken there's a seal over the DVD drive with a similar warning when you buy it.

Unfortunately that's not true - I am now the proud owner of 3 different games that are ruined because the DVD drive makes scratches on the discs. And that is despite the fact that my Xbox console have not been moved at any point since I installed it. Microsoft has chosen not to admit their responsibility, and will not replace any games ruined this way, but I guess that is to be expected given that it's Microsoft (they are never wrong, remember?). It seems to me that they are saying: Put a modchip in your console and start downloading illegal copies instead. Unfortunately I'm against this sort of activity, and prefer to buy my games legally.

So, I don't think that I will buy any more games for my Xbox, and stick to playing games on my PS3. To spend money on games that gets ruined by the hardware that are supposed to play them, seems a bit wacky to me.

2 out of 5 stars Great graphics but doesn't last very long   December 25, 2008

Great games, great graphics but short life expectancy. Just had my second 360 die in less than 2 years. I think that the price comparisons for this console and the Wii and PS3 are unfair since the other consoles seem to last a lot longer, whereas the 360 (for me at least, although many others say the same thing) should be costed on a per year basis - in which case it is way more exensive than its rivals.

Don't buy unless you are prepared to replace every year or two.
