Amazon.co.uk Review
Featuring a brand new adventure filled with numerous enhancements and innovations, this long-awaited sequel to Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow greatly improves upon the series' winning formula, making for an even more insanely addictive and wholly absorbing gaming experience.

Like Pokemon Silver, which is essentially the same story with minor gameplay variations, Pokemon Gold casts players in the familiar role of a young Pokemon Trainer who is out to collect as many different kinds of Pokemon as possible. As in previous games, gameplay consists mostly of exploration (completing various quests in the process) and Pokemon battles, which employ a unique battle-system that's like a complex twist on rock-paper-scissors.

But despite the similarities, it's quite apparent that Pokemon Gold is a whole new ball game from the start. The game is played out in real time, with the current time and day-of-the-week (recorded by an internal clock) having a direct impact on gameplay elements, such as what Pokemon you will find in the wild, and when certain events occur and characters appear.

While there are simply too many new and improved features in Pokemon Gold to list here, among the highlights are 100 new Pokemon (including two new types), new evolution processes (including breeding) and a more streamlined game interface with better-organized menus and button shortcuts.

Although it's easier to progress in Pokemon Gold than the previous games, the sheer amount of fun and game time involved is daunting. You would be really hard-pressed to find a better value game than this. --Joe Hon

5 out of 5 stars The Pokemon Expeience   October 8, 2007

Now come on...it's unlikely that you've never heard of Pokemon if you're reading this. And you should all know that this version has 251 pokemon which you need to capture.

You start off as a basic pokemon trainer, as you raise and capture more pokemon you're party grows stronger and evolves as you attempt to become the Pokemon master by beating all the gym leaders and the elite four and finally ??? (I won't spoil it for you).

Basically it's an addictive RPG that involves you raising and capturing pokemon...do you really need a long and in depth review for something so basically addictive. Just buy it.

5 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of the Pokemon series.   February 13, 2007

For those of you too young to remember the Gold and Silver games as they were when they first came out, to most veterans of the series these remain its greatest achievement. As well as a whole new word to explore, 100 more fantastically designed monsters (in glorious colour!), and the introductions of gender, the breeding system, and ever-coveted 'shiny' pokemon, there's also a trip down memory lane in the form of a revisit to Kanto for all those who loved the world of the original Red, Blue and Yellow games. In short, Gold and Silver improve on the originals in every conceivable way, as well as adding a wealth of new features. If you're new to pokemon or have grown bored of Ruby and Sapphire, check this game out... you won't regret it!

This Pokemon title is one of the best pokemon games i have ever played (except ruby and sapphire) it is great how you can play in the night and day. The new pokemon are amazing especially when you put them in pokemon stadium 2. All in all this is a great game and a must have for all pokemon fans.

Prepare yourselves for one of the great games in Pokemon history: Pokemon Gold (and Silver). Travel through the new region of Johto, and uncover the strangest secrets of its past, such as the Unown! Travel through the Johto and the Kanto regions, to win both championships, and catch the 100 new Pokemon! This game also features new items such as the Pokegear, featuring a mobile phone, and for the first time ever, trainers challenge you for rematches, so you can gain more experience and money, which, by the way, is wasted on your mum, who spends every penny. There also new options, such as the date, which effects daily events, and also the coll night-day transaction, which brings out new Pokemon from hiding!

What you might think at first is here we go again another pokemon game same old same old nintendo trying to get us to put our hands in our pockets again.

Well stop that kind of thinking right now Gold is completly different to the previous games and the main character isn't even Ash any more.

There have been a lot of nice tweeks to this game:

There is a Night and Day function meaning that certain Pokemon than can be caught only at certain time of the day.

Completly different land to explore the land you explore now is called Johto

There is also 251 Pokemon now instead of 151 that where in the first ones. You also cant just build up a party of Mewtwo's now as they have made and extra category of weakness's for Psychic Pokemon.

The animations have been touched up a bit now making the Pokemon look better than ever and get this it's in colour now as well.

The one downer about this game is that you have to have the prevoius games to get all the pokemon in your pokedex in the new games

My advice would be to anybody who liked the first games buy this straight away you wont be disapointed. I'm 22 and i just cant get enough of these addictive games. Role on Pokemon Ruby and Saphire
