Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
The Xbox 360 is Microsoft's successor to the Xbox console, and is the first "next generation" games console to hit the market. It has three powerful core processors which pump out 720p/1080i output (translation: graphics look great), 16x9 cinematic aspect ratio (translation: it's sort of like the cinema), anti-aliasing for smooth textures (translation: characters look less like chimps and more like people), full surround sound and DVD playback right out of the box.

A multi media experience

Xbox 360 with wireless controller
Xbox 360, shown with levitating wireless controller

In comparison to the Darth Vader inspired design of the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 a thing of (near) wondrous beauty.

In addition to playing games and movies, the Xbox 360 can stream music and video from a wide variety of electronic devices, including iPods and the Sony PSP.

Get Live

The Xbox 360 offers an online gaming experience via Xbox Live. This allows you to play multi-player Xbox 360 games on the internet via your broadband connection. The service also lets you download--and save on the console's hard drive--new missions, characters and vehicles for your favourite games. You can also shout real-time abuse at your opponents using the Xbox 360 headset

Choose the package that's right for you

The Xbox 360 comes in two different packages: the deluxe package includes a wireless controller, 20GB hard drive, and a number of other accessories. Alternatively, the Core System bundle has a standard wired controller and no hard drive.

Which option is right for you will depend largely on your gaming needs--are you a fan of downloadable content? Do controller wires upset the feng shui of your living room? There are pros and cons for each option: for instance, if you do plump for the Core System you will have to buy a separate memory unit if you want to save your games. Likewise, if you opt for the deluxe version you will need a steady supply of AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack to power the wireless controller.

The Xbox 360 is only backwards compatible with a limited number of original Xbox titles, and a hard drive is required for this function.

5 out of 5 stars BUY AN XBOX 360!!!!!!!!!   October 10, 2008
Now I am probably one of thee worlds biggest critics for the Xbox 360 during its release phase. I must have told hundreds of people "dont get one of them wait for the PS3 its gonna be awesome", and cannot count the amount of arguements I have had with people over this console war.
But.....my god I have been turned to the dark side. This console has to be the best gaming experience I have ever had. My early life was Nintendo (Super Mario at the age of 2 has to be the highlight) but then came along the Playstation with its flip up lid and CD's (this was amazement to me considering the catridges I was so used to).
Games that brought to attention different aspects of playability and excitement, like GTA, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil (and for us sports fans FIFA 98 Road to The World Cup - which was and has been the far best FIFA title up until this years FIFA 09 - nothing like scoring from the half way line :D) and I hate to say it but Croc and Crash Bandicoot.
Then came the 2nd installment of the Playstation, the change in graphics was amazing, they were so much more realistic (Metal Gear Solid for one) and I absoluteley adored it, i spent most of my teens behind a tv playing on my PS2 and when the news came about of the PS3 I was even more excited. In my mind I had a dream about how it would be, look but most of all how it would play. And to be perfectly honest I've never been so let down in all my life (It must have been when they released those screen shots of the infamous boomerang control pad :S).
My first play on a Xbox came just under a year ago. My cousin decided he wanted to have one for xmas. We spent weeks looking for a good deal, and for 250 with two controllers and games compared to the 350 of a PS3 it was a bargain (now you lucky buggers are getting it for 145).
Ive never been so excited about playing games such as Gears Of War, Halo 3 and the amazing Call Of Duty 4, it is one memorable experience. Yes its loud, yes it overheats but it sure makes up for it it graphics and playability (and damn right awesomeness).
I've seen quite alot of comments about Xbox Live been a scam, well trust me coming from someone whos played COD 4 on the Xbox and PS3 its well worth the money. COD 4 online (and offline) is amazing, the graphics, the detail, the gameplay is all astounding and it never gets boring taking out your frustration on someone by shooting them in the head or blowing them up with a grenade. With the PS3 though its a different story, yes theres gameplay, and it maybe free but the graphics and detail show just why it is, it is nothing in comparison with the Xbox. The colour and detail have to be the worst ive seen, the only way i can describe is like my 5 yr old brother trying to colour in a picture in a coluring book within the lines and failing miserably. There is no sharpness, no thought, no attention to detail (and its not just online where it fails), I was seriously put off by the graphics that at times I felt physically sick because of the contrast. It is safe to say that it wasnt enjoyable and played other games such as Beijing 2008, Burnout Paradise etc and was unimpressed. The only upside is that it has a blue ray player and that is seriously pushing it.
To round this very long story up, it is safe to say that yes the Xbox has its flaws, and so does the PS3, but for 1.price 2.amazing graphics 3.looks (very spaceage) 4.Xbox Live (which you have to have with this) 5.Games (G.O.W, Halo, COD, FarCry, Fable and all the new releases of some of the previous games ive said) makes this one of the most memorable gaming experiences and I would at least urge you to jump on the bandwagon, as you will seriously not be disappointed

2 out of 5 stars Wait and hope for the Jasper chipset. Same errors still exist.   October 6, 2008
Just a quick note to let everyone know that Falcon chipsets still havent fixed the RROD error, nor the disc scratching DVD drives. The reason for the price drops is the cost of components dropped and a new updated version of the 360 is being built and should be released some time after Christmas (I hope). My Falcon 360 has now been sent back for repairs for the 2nd time, and has scratched the living hell out of my Oblivion GOTY Edition along with causing another RROD error. The console is also still as noisy as before. If it breaks one more time I'll have to get my Xbox 1 out of the dust once again and claim insurance for the 360.

Microsoft better pull out a miracle while they still have the huge amount of consumers. Im close to losing all hope in the 360 and wait for the 720, but the Jasper chipset is my last bit of hope in the 360. Don't buy a 360 in the meantime no matter how badly seduced you are at giving Gears of War another go, or waiting for the Fable 2 release, unless you want more errors and waste another 100 in about 6 months.

5 out of 5 stars Gaming has never been better   September 3, 2008
1 out of 3 found this review helpful

First off, this consoles star rating has been destroyed by stupid fanboys who rate it low, just because they have a ps3, so ignore them.
People say this console is unreliable, but if you take good care of it, it will last you for years.

The exlusive games are truley amazing, and the online community is massive.
xbox live, although costing, is far superior to any other consoles online service to date, and it is only 5 extra a month on you internet bill, or just 30 a year.

I could not have made a better choice of games console, and if you've got the extra cash, you may just want to dish out on an elite, for the extra space etc.

5 out of 5 stars great/bad   August 25, 2008
okay i have read alot of reviews lately about red ring of death but to be honest if that happens to you get it fixed for you if you a warranty and sell it buy a console you will be happy with or keep it and hope for the best but to be i have had mine for about coming up a yaer now and mine is fine no problems and enjoy it and a friend of mine has his since the it was relaced and his is fine never had any problems at all and hes a hardcore gamer 5 or 6 hours a day so i think it comes down to look and enjoy it while you have it because its a great console

3 out of 5 stars get a PS3!   August 24, 2008

It has good graphics and some great exclusive games(e.g halo 3, dead rising, gears of war) But so does ps3 and you don't have to pay 39.99 a year just to play online. The ps3 also has better graphics. don't bother buying an xbox 360.
