3 out of 5 stars Not Really That Big Enough, Just One Large Game Eats The Whole Card!   April 11, 2007
Mrs. Dawnc Alexandre (Jersey (CI))
I first owned one of these Memory Card's when I first got the Nintendo Gamecube along with Luigi's Mansion! Having that alone was no problems, as Luigi's Mansion only requires 3 Blocks to save data! However, when I obtained more Nintendo Gamecube games, for example Super Mario Sunshine (7 Blocks Required), Super Smash Bros. Melee (11 Blocks Required Without Snapshots), Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (11 Blocks Required), and Pikmin (19 Blocks Required), I was at a stage thinking to myself "How the heck am I going to store all this saved data onto this small Memory Card, it's just Unreal! You need dozens of Memory Card's to do this!" This was however until I found the 251 Block Memory Card and to put it in my opinion, that 251 Block Memory Card saved my life!

My brother however, wanted this Memory Card since I got myself the 251 Block Memory Card, so I gave it to him and when I got the game Pokemon Colosseum, I got a 59 Block Memory Card for free with the game, as Pokemon Colosseum alone takes 48 Blocks! So I now only really use this Memory Card for the use of Pokemon Colosseum!

My Grade For The Memory Card: 7/10: On The Ball, Down-But Not Out, OK

My Wish: I just wish that the Memory Card had more block units for more space storage use! If only it was about 75-100 Blocks, that would have done the trick for me!

Final Comments: It's hard to give out an opinion for this Memory Card because I suppose it depends upon how many games and how frequent you play on the Nintendo Gamecube! Let's put it this way. If you own more than 15-20 Gamecube Games, get a 251 Block Memory Card, if you own about 5-10 Gamecube Games which take less than 59 Blocks each, get one of these! If you're stuck on choice, or you're going to obtain more Nintendo Gamecube Games than you think, I recommend you getting both! After all 251+59=310 Blocks can sure be handy! Remember that the new Nintendo Wii has just be released as well and you never know what data may need to be saved onto the Nintendo Gamecube Memory Card's using the Nintendo Wii!

2 out of 5 stars Quality but no quantity   December 12, 2003

Well if you're after a quality memory card I can't help but recommend this. It has never in my experience corrupted which is more than can be said for certain third party cards.
But the problem is it's just too small. While you may be able to fit a decent amount of smaller block games on the card there are some that will take up half the card.
The 251 has four times the amount of this card and as it's only a few pounds more I don't really see why this card is still on the market.
Spend a few more pounds and get a card with a reasonable amount of storage space.

I know many have complained about the small capacity of these official memory cards, but not me. I know from past experience that only official memory cards can be trusted to work and remain in tact. Third party products tend to be defective and erase all of your game saves!
I would gladly buy several of these quality memory cards than buy a larger one that MIGHT keep all of my game saves.
Don't quibble about cost, buy this one now!

2 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!   September 29, 2002

I haven't got a bad word to say about official Nintendo products, however, this card is only 51 blocks of memory. Since it was released there's a 251 block card, which you should be able to pick up for only a couple of quid more. So steer clear of this one, and get the higher capacity one for only two or three quid more :).

3 out of 5 stars Tiny in many, many ways!   June 25, 2002

First thing that'll strike you about the memory card is it's physical size - it's tiny! I've got a PS2 and their memory cards are huge in comparison! Unfortunately, storage capacity is tiny too - 4MB sounds alot, huh? PS2 cards are only 8MB? Well, the Gamecube card is 4 megabits, whilst the PS2 card is 4 megabytes, so the PS2 memory card is actually 16 times more capacitous than that Gamecube one, whilst only being twice the price.

Less of my rambling. I gave the card 3 stars mainly because it's cute - it would have got 2 otherwise! I've only got two games so far - Pikmin takes up 19 blocks of the 59, and Super Monkey Ball takes up 3 blocks. Many more games, and you'll be looking for a new memory card!

Come on Nintendo! Sony and Microsoft have already set the standard with their save game solutions, so why release such a small capacity official card? Expect customers to flock to third party offerings en masse.
