Still problematic for some January 4, 2009 Post Apocalyptic Reader (British Isles) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this game despite reading some of the negative reviews here because I sat and watched someone else install this game and start playing within half an hour. I incorrectly assumed any teething problems with the game had been resolved. Unfortunately I have difficulty getting mine to run at all on my laptop and when I do the game keeps hanging after a few minutes of play - I won't go into further details here as it has been said before and I would suggest the reader reads the other reviews for this game. What is most unhelpful is some of the reviews which state that they had no problems with the game. Excuse me asking but what relevance is that to those who do have problems? My laptop is just over a month old and is of high spec and whilst I am no computer expert, neither am I a novice and have installed loads of games before without a hitch. I cannot explain why it sometimes installs and works properly for some and not for others but apparently it just does. You may buy this game and it works without any problems like a lot of the reviewers here, on the other hand....

I think a lot of people have put realy bad reviews on this game. It was a little bit long winded to install because it has tightened up on copyright thieves but so what. Once I installed the game and got playing it I found it thoroughly enjoyable. It is a really good improvement on the last game and although the 3D match engine is actually pretty poor quality in terms of graphics it is still pretty fun to watch your own team in football manager for a change in stead of just watching these stupid little dots moving across a screen. I think the improvement in press conferences is also really fun and the matchplays and national team selection are more realistic as well! Whereas before the national teams only ever had all the best players, now in friendlies etc those with good form and so on are also picked into the squads, just like in real life! Do not listen to the overall star rating for this game it is seriously fun to play and I have been on it virtually non stop and am really enjoying it. Buy this game it is WELL worth the purchase!
Good game with complex install January 3, 2009 Mr. R. N. Mills (Scotland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got FM2009 for Christmas and its a great game. Its got a lot of depth and features and you can really get your teeth into it - everything from the press conferences to mind games with other managers and player interaction. In fact for those who've grown up with Champ Manager and such like this is a great game. I've been playing it a great deal since I got it. Ther 3D TV view graphics aren't amazing but in terms of the game itself I'd give it a 9/10. My main problem with the game is the Steam programme you have to install with the game. I didn't want steam, and I don't want it on my PC, but you have to have it to play the game. I just want a game you can put in the PC, install and play - no hassles. Steam is quite complicated and I feel it adds an unnecessary element to the game. It actually really bugs me when you have to register games, give email addresses and have an account with some random organisation just to play a game. So overall, FM2009 is everything I wanted, but why all the annoying add on's SIgames ?
Excellent game, aren't they always? December 29, 2008 Mr. N. J. Henderson (Coventry, England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
As someone who has played the Championship Manager/Football Manager series from the very beginning, I feel qualified to write a review on this rather wonderful series of games. Football Manager is quite simply the best and most realistic Football management sim out there, period. Yes installing is somewhat awkward, but no-one can blame Sega for trying to stop piracy, it must cost them millions. I actived mine through Steam, with no problems whatsoever. So, with all that out of the way, onto the game itself. FM2009 is basically a simple update of FM2008, with a few unique and new features. I rather like the new 3D Match view, although it may not work on low end computers. The assistant manager feedback during the game is also a help, along with his recommendation on potential new signings for weak areas of your squad. I still think though, and have done for some time, that FM producers rather get player ratings wrong, I think they sometimes don't accurately reflect true player ability. However, anyone who visits the FM Scout website will soon be able to correct that with a saved game editor... To sum up, if your looking for a footy management sim then you can't look beyond FM2009, it's the best on the market by a country mile.
