Manufacturer's Description
Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

4 out of 5 stars What were you expecting?   December 8, 2008

I bought Fifa 09 for the pure fact that I had Fifa 07 and although I still enjoyed playing that, I quite fancied updated teams, players, graphics etc. So I'm not disappointed, it has all those. I wasn't expecting a giant leap forward in realism, nor something to rival the looks of the PS3 Fifa versions. Therefore if you're expecting some ground-breaking, new era type game, don't get your hopes up, as I think if you are really looking for that then you should look to getting a PS3 or Xbox or whatever.
This game is still enjoyable, with some good tricks still, which is really why everyone plays a one-star opposition, to show off their rainbow flicks right?
Fifa 09 is fun for a now-and-then player; if you want amazing hours-on-end fun then maybe look to a next generation console for your answer.

PS: Be A Pro mode, I think is average. As another reviewer states, you can't select a number for your player if it's already taken, so you have to be number 27 or something, and it can get a bit repetitive, not to mention harsh on the eyes when the screen widens to get all the action in. But it's ok - something a bit different to liven things up.

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable to play!   October 25, 2008

As always,Fifa 09 is very enjoyable.I was also pleased to see that EA SPORTS waited for the end of the Summer Transfer Window. The reason why I have marked this game down is because there are so many skills and features that they include on PS3 and Xbox 360.The first thing is you can't have control over the players goal celebration.I would really enjoy controlling my players delight. The second thing is that there are quite a few new skills that you can do for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and I would love to be able to trick defenders.Actually, there aren't any(apart from casual controls that I can't see the point in)new skills for the PS2 version. But overall I think that it is a fun game.

5 out of 5 stars Super game for all FIFA lovers   October 20, 2008

I have FIFA 09 on PS2 and i think it's much better than any of the others. The graphics are better, and it's much more reallistic (especially the results of tackles). It's a shame the game is only spoiled by some bad commentary, but it's a must have. For any FIFA lover or if you are new to the game, go out and buy it. You don't need to spend hundreds of pounds on PS3's when you can thoroughly enjoy FIFA 09 on the good old PS2!

2 out of 5 stars Can't really tell the difference   October 17, 2008

i really was expecting a better game this time around, the prvious fifa was brilliant but was easy to get bored with after a few hours a week. so i hoped this game would offer something a bit different but its just like 08. i have also played on the xbox 360 version and found that there is a big difference between the 08 and 09 versions. so after playing this game 5 times i sold it, very very dissapointing fifa!

2 out of 5 stars EA you promised so much......   October 16, 2008

Now firstly im not getting into the arguments about whether this is better than Pro Evo or not. I have only bought one previous football game and that is Pro Evo 4 which was a great game and kept me playing again and again. This however wont and ill explain why....

While Fifa 09 has a lot to be proud of, proper kits, up to date players and stadiums etc the main problem I felt was that it promised much but actually when you got down to the bare bones of the game, it delivers little.

I'll give you an example when you choose to do a league campaign or take on a season, ideally what should happen is like the master league option on pro evo and you can decide if you want to (or it is mandatory to) take part in cup competitions. Here no such luck, you want to play a league? you play a league. A cup? thats all for you fella, your playing a cup.

Now I know people will say but the option is to do it on the manager mode but surely the idea of being a manager is to NOT take part in the games but here you can play them too???? The modes kind of dont know what they want you to do.

Now the much trumpeted "Be a pro" mode. Create yourself and take yourself to the top. Cool you'd think so wouldnt you? Im afraid no, four seasons only (why?) you cant transfer to other clubs if you get better so you pick yourself playing for eg Tranmere (my team) your stuck at tranmere for 4 years. Playing kits? Nope squad numbers are picked for you if someone happens to have your number. Boots? you can only pick out of ten basic varieties designed by the programmers so while all your other teammates run round in nike, lotto, umbro, adidas etc, you are stuck with something else. Is it not too much to ask to be able to pick a design that is on there already? or maybe approached for a boot deal built into the mode? Create your player to look like you?? Sure if you look like an extra from Bo Selecta, no matter what you do to your players face they all look the same, again another disappointment.

Which sums up the problems with this game. As far as the playability goes and the detail in the players EA have it spot on, but I dont know what you would call it, lazyness maybe to get the game out before pro evo? but this just ruins this game. Things that are basic commodities on pro are overlooked here. Edit player is pointless. Make your own team? takes so long to create a player and every player looks the same so why would you bother?

In summary, this is a poor game that only gets two stars purely because it plays ok and the existing teams and players look good. However for an immersive football game, look elsewhere. I was still playing pro evo 4 for 3 years after purchasing, this Ive had for a week and is going straight into the tradein bag ready for tomorrows launch of pro evo, im sorry to say.
