5 out of 5 stars Oooooooooooookami!   December 31, 2008
Andrew McKeown
I am about 15 hours into okami and what I have played has been amazing. The japanese style visuals are stunning and there is also a great soundtrack. On of the wii version's strong points is the motion controls, and the celestial brush works superbly once you've got used to it. The quest has a great story and in places is also quite funny too. I've been told the game takes a good 30 hours to complete, so it's gonna kepp you busy. My one niggle for this game is that some of the motion controls don't work as well as they should, particularly the 'fleetfoot' ability which is controlled by swinging the nunchuck.

Overall I think okami is a fantastic game which I would recommend to people who like adventure games, particularly the zelda series.

5 out of 5 stars Exciting storyline and game   December 26, 2008

I think the game has an excellent storyline, and it has a few twists in it. This game hardly has any places where you're stuck for ages and ages so everything is fine to get through. It has graphics which i think are original, because it isn't that typically virtual look.

This game has been locking me into playing it for ages and haven't stopped playing it.

I recommend this game to everyone! Hope you have the same opinions as I do.

2 out of 5 stars Not a lost classic   December 22, 2008

A lot of reviewers have treated Okami as some sort of classic and are mystified by it's lack of sales success. I'm pretty sure it failed because it's deeply flawed - it's frustrating really, because it's beautiful looking game, and the flaws could have been fixed on the Wii.

There are three main flaws, the broken drawing controls, terrible save system, and utterly unfair gameplay complete with having to endless click through dialog each team you fail and want to try again.

From forums, its seems like the drawing control weren't great on the PS2, but this is a real problem. In one task, for example, you have to draw 5 circles in a row. Problem is it seems to be utterly random as to what it will accept as a circle.

The save system relies on checkpoints (always a bad thing in my book), and you can get in situations were you can't complete a task (usually because of the broken controls) and can't exit and save. So you just have to switch the Wii off.

The worse thing, though, are the tasks where if you fail you have to go through about twenty lines of dialog that appear one word at a time before you can have another go. The task some times only take a few seconds to fail at, so you have about 5 seconds playtime to two minutes of replaying and clicking through dialog.

It's a shame really, these flaws could have been fixed for the Wii version - the graphics are amazing, and a lot of the game play is quite charming. At it was Okami flopped again (it's word-of-mouth must be terrible) and I'm left re-playing Zelda for some non-frustrating action adventuring.

4 out of 5 stars Okami is awesome   December 12, 2008

Really fast delivery, I was really impressed how fast it came. All credit to the company, no extra charge for first class post. The game itself is great. It takes a good 35+ hours to complete, so you can get obsessed with this game. Zelda fans will enjoy this, although the cell shading takes a while to get used to, especially if you're used to playing games with amazing graphics. But, give it a try. 20 odd, bargin.

5 out of 5 stars Truly exceptional   November 28, 2008

I really don't have a lot more to add about this game that hasn't been said already, but after two people gave it 1/5 I felt I had to help redress the balance!

It's brilliant. End of. The kind of game that makes you remember how happy you were when you first got a console, that brings a smile to your face before you've realised it, and shivers up your back every time you achieve something.

Buy it.
