Amazon.co.uk Preview From the creator of The Sims comes the most ambitious video game ever made: here you don't just control a single family or city but control an entire species from a single cell organism to a galactic conqueror. As impossibly complex as that might sound, the most impressive thing about Spore is just how accessible and fun it all is. The game is split into six evolutionary phases, starting with almost action-style gameplay at the microscopic level. From there you move to the creature phase on dry land, before going on to the tribal phase and the beginnings of society and technology. From there it's onto the city phase, which plays a bit like SimCity, and from there to the Civilisation phase which plays something like, you guessed it, Civilization. The final phase takes part in outer space where by hook or by crock your species must reign triumphant. Each phase has its own editing tools associated with it for things like vehicles and buildings. By far the most fun though is the creature tool, which allows you to create your own fully animated lifeform from scratch using a huge range of limbs, facial features and colourings. What's also interesting is that the other planets in the galaxy aren't all pre-populated by the game. Instead, by connecting online you can upload your races, and download those from other people, to fill the galaxy with civilizations from other players around the world. Any one of the six phases would normally be enough for any one game on its own, but this looks like it's going to turn out to be the world's first everything simulator. HARRISON DENT

A truckload of f-u-n January 4, 2009 varsha patel (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great game! The game is a very varied experience indeed - it has 5 stages that are almost like five different standalone games - except they are connected by the way your 'creature' evolves. The creature creators included in this game are exceptional, even solely as art programs (however, if you are intending to use spore for art, I'd recommend the cheaper product known as Spore: Creature Creator, that's only 4.99.) The online content is actually quite good, for a PC game that isn't really focused on multiplayer (World of Warcraft is a good example of a game focused on multiplayer.) You are allowed to download the creations of your friends into your game. Overall, this is a great product. The story is unusually gripping, as you venture from a simple bacterium to an intelligent animal to a tribal cheif to a city leader to a galactic conqueror. You can also create your own aerial, aquatic, space and land vehicles which can be used for in game uses. So...just get this! If you want an art program, get Spore Creature Creator. If you have this and want more Spore, get Spore Cute & Creepy Parts Pack. If you want this but don't have a good PC, try getting Spore Origins on your iPod or mobile phone for a more in depth experience based on a single stage of spore, the cell stage. If you're a gamer, you could get Spore Creatures instead, which is on DS, that gives you an in depth experience based on the Creature stage of Spore. If you have an okay PC (this game takes up a hefty 5GB of space!) get this. If you're really interested, get the special edition - SPORE: Galactic Edition. And if you're really really interested...get as many of them as possible...
AWWWWWW January 4, 2009 Mr. Graham Boden 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with the first review i read you wil want to take it back to the shops. Its the creature stage that got me so annoyed it is impossible for you to be better at social with any creatures you have to kill them or run around 24/7 looking for parts. I must admit that stupidly i enjoyed the cell stage the most. But once you get on your feet i was disgusted really disgusted. I can't even be bothered to even do the civilisation stage it dragged me under a lot. Thats all just moans
Awesome, dunno why everyone is bashing it... January 2, 2009 B. L. Sanger (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is just as addictive as the Sims, only better, far beyond my expectations in fact. It takes a bit of time to get the hang of, but boy was this game worth the wait. Don't listen to those bashing it because of the limited installs thing, the reviews should really be based on the game and its playability.
Amazing Game! December 31, 2008 Mrs. Lisa Brown (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly, why all the negative feedback? This game has hit a gap in the market no-one has ever done before. You start as a small cell and as time goes on you evolve the creature and build a civilisation! Soon you have an army, and space crafts, and all the things kids have dreamed of having in one single video game. Sure, you need a proper gaming computer or just one with a lot of hard disk space and a good graphics card. Don't be put off by the reviews of people who are not seeing the brilliant side of the games. It is a warfare and stratigic game for people who don't like those boring ones which just are the same as each other. Spore has really hit a gap in the market and for that, I think EA deserve a pat on the back for making a game completely thought up and not copied off something else which has been made before ! All people who read this review, I hope you buy this game as you don't know what your missing. I for one have had it for just 3 weeks and I already love it. BUY THIS GAME!
One of the best games EVER!!!! December 29, 2008 R. J. Hutchinson (north yorkshire, UK) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I honestly don't understand the negative reviews, they must be joking! This is one of the best games ever made. I admit, that if you are into Hardcore Shoot em ups, This is not the game for you. However if you enjoyed The Sims, Age of Empires, any of the total war games or just simply like strategy games I strongly recommend buying this.
