Amazon.co.uk Review
Want to play a first-person shooter on your console? Tired of there being no proper GoldenEye sequel? Wishing that you could play the part of a Barbary ape in the Wild West? TimeSplitters 2 is the game for you if you answered "yes" to any of these questions.

When Rare made GoldenEye for the N64 in 1997 they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set-up their own company, Free Radical; their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch) TimeSplitters but this sequel is polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year.

One of the main problems with the original TimeSplitters was its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully they've kept the wicked sense of humour from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage to GoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level as well as pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game.

The real reason for TimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This is GoldenEye to the nth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks such as remote control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope of Halo but in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as The Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins

first of all when I played this game I was amazed, it had great graphics, great sound and great gameplay. This is a awsome game.
When I played this on two player with my mates I thought to my self why dont I go and get a sniper and pick them off one by one well when I did get the sniper rifle and a decent enough spot I was shocked on how bad the aiming for the guns were, it was the most poorist I have ever seen I really cant stand it , it really spoils the game a lot. great game but jusy crap aiming.

timesplitters 2 is an amazin game with lots of unlockable characters.
the storyline is very gripping and exciting.
its about 2 space travellers: sgt. cortez and corparal hart traveling through time (cortez deos all of it really) and restoring our history and our future by collecting time crystals held by bosses in each level.this game is a top buy and i would recommend it to anyone who likes shooting games.

5 out of 5 stars Best FPS on Gamecube, no question   November 1, 2004

I'll admit that it's nothing on goldeneye, but it is still AMAZING. it's just so much better than any other FPS on gamecube. I could not rate it higher.

2 out of 5 stars Below average but well presented FPS   September 7, 2004

Let me just start by saying I really wanted to like this game. I loved Goldeneye and like everyone else im still waiting for an FPS to match it. Unfortunately this comes nowhere near. Its nicely polished and very well presented. The menu is clear to understand and the in game graphics are very smooth and nicely detailed. Its also worth mentioning the cut-scenes done using the game engine are very good. Extremely fluid animation and some nice facial expresions are used.
In single-player you have the story mode which takes the player through various times and settings. Although obviously trying to give the player some variety using different characters and weapons for each time zone, the single-player experience proves very short and underwhealming. To add longevity you can play the multiplayer mode featuring bots or take up the challenge modes. These are short mini game esque parts where you are rewarded with medals and can unlock more features. Unfortunately though there is not much incentive to do this and it just proves to be quite boring.
The muli-player mode is also quite disappointing. My mates and I love a good multiplayer session on the cube. Were huge fans of mario kart and monkeyball. I put this on a few times but it never lasted more than half an hour before we'd get bored and change games. The multiplayer just seems really bland and with no substance to it. With some boring level design the tedium soon steps in and you'l want to turn the cube off. I know im going against the grain here but i just really didnt like this game and neither did my mates. Id suggest renting it out for a weekend before buying.
I left it on the shelf gathering dust and would return to it every now and then hoping that it would grab me in some way just like the hype and reviews said. Sadly it never did and I ended up selling it on ebay to get some money back for a different game.
If you want a good single player game with a good multiplayer aspect get monkeyball or mario kart.
